Well, I can tell you now. I'm one who believes it's OK to have your cake and eat it too. It would be foolish for the SWAC and MEAC to give up games like the Celebration Bowl or to move the Bayou Classic just for the purpose of making the playoffs. As I'm sure you already know, college athletics is a business. And it simply wouldn't be in the best (financial) interest of the SWAC or MEAC to mess with those games especially when it's been proven that schools lose money participating in the playoffs. However, because the conference (the SWAC) is aware of how woeful the teams have been against nonconference opponents in the past, the regular season scheduling was modified (reduced) to 7 games so that member schools could play more nonconference teams. As a result, Fobbs is scheduling more regional teams like NSU, and plans to schedule NcNeese, Nichols and so forth. Only time will tell what the win-loss results will be. There is no reason why we can't kick some SLC but and still win an HBCU championship too. We don't need to participate in the FCS playoffs to know where we stand. I'm going to disagree with purplestorm on this one, but after watching grambling last night I absolutely think Grambling is a top 25 caliber FCS team. Way more impressive than tech was last week. Kincade and Montez Carter in the backfield are a lethal combination and we had fits containing both players. Kincade had a few throws that were absolute dimes and we had them covered well. I think we adjusted well defensively in the second half but there were times early that I thought you guys were going to hang 50 on us...I thought if we won going in that it would definitely be an upset, and I have zero issue with saying Grambling was the better team last night. Your OC called a great game and the team as a whole was very well disciplined and clearly well coached. We could not get going on offense and would get a negative play if we did get a few first downs. Honestly not sure how much longer you guys can hang on to Fobbs. Hopefully we can get you guys back next season in Turpin with a regime change.

You think Grambling would beat La Tech? Seriously? We'll definitely have to agree to disagree. Also, there are 9 major FCS conferences with about 10 teams each, on average. Rough numbers. Not counting Pioneer, Ivy League or SWAC and MEAC. The Missouri Valley is by far the toughest, top-to-bottom, and I'm here to tell anyone, anywhere, anytime that Grambling could not beat any of the teams in that conference. Not one! The CAA is the second-toughest. Grambling might be able to beat two or three of the teams -- Albany, Elon, Rhode Island -- in that conference of the 13. The third best, top-to-bottom, would be the Big Sky. Grambling might be able to beat the three lowest teams in that conference -- Idaho, Idaho State, Weber State. Maybe Weber State. Maybe. Now, we're already at 29 teams and there are another 6 conferences with tough teams in them, especially in their top halves. I haven't even gotten to the Sam Houston's, Jacksonville State's, Wofford's, Liberty's and Charleston Southern's of the world. Legitimate Top 25? No way. Not even close! Popularity Top 25? Of course. Because rankings are only based on wins and losses and that isn't reality. There are always about five teams in the Top 25 that are based on wins and losses only. Wins and losses in the Pioneer League can't be compared to wins and losses in a tougher league like the Missouri Valley. Rankings are a joke. That said, and all that matters is, Grambling is better than us right now.

They could beat Idaho state and Rhode Island and....what? How do you come up with these arguments? I know talent and good teams when I see them because I played the game and I was in attendance in person and Grambling had talent, and they were a really good team. Just because they play in a weaker league doesn't mean they are a not legitimate. For crying out loud southland is close to the bottom in fcs and sam proved that they could play with anyone in the country. They are coming off of a 13-1 season where they only lost to Arizona by 10. I'm guessing you know more about FCS football than the people who actually do the polling?

Well, you've made this a bit personal. And I guess only former football players can post here? So, I'll respectfully bow out. Before I go, I've hailed Grambling as better than us. It is obvious that they're a good team; Top 50, for sure. But, I'm not buying the SWAC/MEAC argument. This is one I have talked to Southern fans about for years. G-Man even admitted SWAC/MEAC fans want their cake and eat it, too. And I do think pollsters are political, yes. It's a tough comparison anyway without them stepping into the playoffs. Apples and oranges. I think it's all point-of-view, anyway. The person I know who saw them play against Tulane had someone with him who has forgotten more about football than either of us would ever know. And he said they didn't look good against the Green Wave. Maybe it was a bad game for them. Who knows? I'm guessing this board now has one less NSU fan on it. Have a nice day. Peace.

I was at the game. Grambling has real legit talent. QB was much better than the one at latech. Running back was better than anyone latech had. Laird made very good adjustments at half and we held them to 6 points. If we don't turn the ball over in the red zone we had a chance. Having said all of this I too am very tired of excuses. Nicholls turned it around in 2 years with less than we have and will compete for the conference championship. We have not had a winning season in 8 years and may be looking at 9. There is no excuse for that...none. But I will drive 9 hours roundtrip for each home game and probably won't miss the away games because I care about those young men so much...but I am tired.

Brad Laird is a difference maker as a coach and one of our own. What you said about him is classless and quite honestly tells me a lot about your character. I totally disagree with you in that we did go toe to toe with tech. One trick play for a touchdown. And Tech is a mid to lower tier FBS no matter what they think. MS State certainly showed them their place and they are a mid to lower tier SEC school. Defense had a lot fewer missed tackles this week and played well in the second half. By the way Lucas and his defense beat tech and #2 Sam Houston in the same season with less talent. I just realized I have been sucked into responding to you and you are just a TROLL! AAGH!

Finally, I find it interesting that the calmest, most-measured response I have gotten came from a Grambling fan. Thank you, G-Man. I truly appreciate that. The responses from you, WreckTechAgain, a troll, and from some of my NSU peers have been less than kind. And I in no way meant any harm with my posts. I stand by what I said. A top-tier FCS team doesn't lose to SWAC and MEAC teams. Ever. Sorry. Now, maybe I was given some poor information on Grambling's performance against Tulane. Maybe Grambling is better than I think they are. If they are, I stand corrected and ask for forgiveness in misreading them. Grambling is better than us right now and I have no issue admitting that, at all. I also have no issue admitting that this will be my last post on this forum. Some NSU fans get too offended too easily these days and there are too many trolls hurling around accusations that are ignorant, buffoonish and weak. In fact, I've always heard the first person yelling racism is usually the closet racist. So, maybe you should do some introspection, WreckTechAgain. Peace to all. I'm done.

Puplestorm, we go way back on here. You have always been the cooler head on this board. That was my bad.
I am tired of losing as well, I just wanted to give credit to a very good team when I see one.

Grambling is a solid team but I think they are a middle of the pack team in relation to the rest of FCS, just my opinion though. I will agree with purplestorm on that. I think if you take Grambling out of the SWAC, they struggle. I don't see them hanging with Sam Houston (or any playoff team).
That isn't an insult on Grambling, they are a fine team and have a good program. I just don't see them competing with Sam, NDSU, Montana, EWU or any of the other powers. ____________________________________
On another note:
I do hope you stick around purplestorm, you are easily one of the better posters on here. Don't have many of us on here and it would definitely be a big blow if you stopped posting.
This isn't a large forum and I would like this message board to grow. Things can get heated at times and that is fine, we all mostly know each other here and I think cooler heads eventually prevail. Disagreements are fine and come with the territory.
However, and this isn't directed to any of the regular posters on here, I will never tolerate false accusations against other members on here. If you want to accuse someone of something do it to their face, this board isn't the place for that. That will always be an automatic ban.
I do apologize for not catching that post sooner and nuking it. I deleted everything regarding that accusation. No need to revisit it and I prefer it not being here. If anyone disagrees I'll restore the posts. I have also banned that poster (who has used multiple usernames anyway ....and was also the "Tech" fan that came here)...was obviously a troll....so goodbye to that person.
While we may critisize things I do believe for the most part this is a positive message board and would like to keep it that way.

I'm from Lafayette and this is my first post on this board so please go easy on me guys! I attended my first home NSU football game Sat. night. My nephew is playing for the Demons and I can say with all honesty I thoroughly enjoyed my night. I think they had a very respectable football atmosphere and I will be attending most all home games this year. Natchodoches is a very beautiful city and a great place to visit. as for the team, I believe they will compete this year. The offense moved the ball quite well and Alleman did a decent job. He will improve as the season goes on. The defense played well at times and if they can put a complete game together we will be a respectable team. My prediction is NSU will be in the top half of the Southland and will improve through the season and next year.My nephew is # 25 Hayden Bourgeois, and I'm pround to be a brand new NSU Demons fan!!!
