Boys, we got our entire butts kicked tonight. It wasn't even close. As I said last week, our defense is our biggest Achilles Heel, not the QB position. One of the QBs will step up and lead the team, but our defense needs a lot of tweaking.

Nice band. Little surprised with band smack. Always thought that was pretty much a HBCU thing. Amaxing Grace was great.

Just got from the game. A few thoughts:
1. ULL was simply a better team than us. They are a solid team. Hats off to them. Great atmosphere for the game as well.
2. Our offense looked better than it did last week. Definitely saw some improvements. Had 3 passes that should have been touchdowns. Put those 21 points up on the board and it may have been a different game. Lots to like with the offense. Would like to see us pass it a little more though.
3. Our D needs to make some adjustments quickly. Second straight week where we were simply gashed all night by an opponent. If we can't fix the issues on D I can see this turning into a very long season.
4. WE are still quite young and I like the job Thomas has done so far. Might take some more lumps this year but he has us going in the right direction.
5. Thomas appeared to be upset at the ULL coach late in the game. ULL had the ball with under 1:00 left and threw one into the end zone. You could see Thomas and a few other coaches yelling at the ULL sideline and pointing at the scoreboard.
6. Major props to the ULL fan base. No bad experiences at the game and the Cajun fans were very hospitable before the game and gracious after the game. Lots of "best of luck the rest of the way" from the Cajun fans I ran into after the game and on the hike back to the car. I sincerely wish them the best of luck the rest of the way and have no problems with pulling for the Cajuns when they don't play us. Major props to their fan base.

I just don't think I've ever seen a run defense as bad as ours. It was pretty much just pick a play and it'll work. Every offseason the "size" problem we have with our front 7 gets fixed but we are getting smaller somehow. Just frustrating thinking back to our great demon defenses and seeing how bad we are now.
Getting Adam Jones back next week will be huge. I still don't know who the QB should be, but offense looked better than last week.
Best of luck to the Cajuns. Hope we can make this game happen again.

Our starting LB's are undersized and our starting DT's are puppies. Our backup LB's are not terribly undersized and I would look for them to slowly make their way into more playing time as we go forward. We'll just have to wait on our DT's to grow up and figure it out. Nothing else can be done. But, Adam Jones returning, bigger LB's getting more playing time and our DT's maturing as the season progresses could lead to some wins. Our offense is going to be OK, I think. Blumenthal and Almond handled the game well. No picks, no fumbles and just a couple inches away from putting up 30 points on a pretty good FBS team. Irons dropped a sure TD. Chan Chan was close on another. Still not enough to win, though.

The kid in at QB in the end was our 3rd team freshman. The kid works extremely hard in practice. Does he not deserve to run the offense? If we had kept Haack and the rest of the starters in Thomas would have a beef. Emotions get the best of us sometimes. Great turnout by your guys. The combined band effort was top notch. Hoe everyone had a safe trip back home

Gotta hang our hat on something when the outcome of the game is more likely not going to be good. I also don't consider is smack...I'm just being a realist. I'm a music educator in Texas with 5 appearances at the Texas State Marching Contest, with the past 4 of those places in the the Top 10. I'm also a 2nd generation music educator and have been around the activity my entire life. Have a good rest of the season. The Amazing Grace was a fantastic performance.

I didn't take issue with it, clearly the ULL coaching staff was trying to end the game on that last drive. That's the same way I took it. I thought he threw the pass because the last running play broke for 50 yards and he was trying to simply end the game. I took no issue with it either.

Ragin' Cajuns coaches and players were class acts. I took no issue at all with how the game ended ... other than our Freshman, Nebraska transfer, WR, missed a wide-open TD pass. He's good and I hope he learns to hang on to those in the future.

Slappy Cajun, I will apologize to you for my vitriol this past week. It's just a game and I took your words too personally. Enjoy your season. Your boys are good and I think you have a shot to win the Sunbelt.

I really wish we would find a QB and stick with him. My goodness. Played 4 QB's and its the second game of the season. No identity in the passing game. Ed Eagan hasn't caught a TD yet. Defense cant stop the run... What is going on???

One thing that needs to be said also, is that QB is a 3rd string RS freshman. The reguar backup QB (Nixon) was held out of this contest becasue he had a slightly injured shoulder from the UK game. This was his first time to play in a game. I am sure he wanted to make the best of the opportunity and impress the coaching staff, as anyone would. It is hard to send those backups who never see the field into a game and say "Don't play too hard."
That said this kid is very talented and may be te Cajuns starter in 2017 after Haack and Nixon are gone.
Also, thanks for the moderators that allow visitors to post in this forum without registering. Very nice touch you do not see very often anymore.

Just a note about the run defense of the Demons. The strongest area for the Cajuns since Hud has come has been the offensive line. Last year the Cajuns lost some really good linemen, but had a couple of guys waiting in the wings to replace them that seem to be pretty good. They are big and they are disciplined. It should also be noted that even though Eli had a *so-so game last week against the Wildcats, he is still the best running back in the SBC and was offensive player of the year in the conference. I said that not to brag, but just to say that not being able to contain Eli is anything to be ashamed of. He is probably one of the best if not the best RB you will see this season. (I don’t know about Miss State.) He is by far the best running back the Cajuns have ever had with the possible exception of Brian Mitchell, who was technically a QB. By the time he was pulled in the 3rd quarter, your D line may have been pretty much spent. I think your Defense will be fine in SLC games. • To Eli, a so-so game at UK meant he rushed for about 90 yards and had a 34 yard pass reception)
I was not at the game because I live in North Texas, but I was impressed with both bands doing the Amazing Grace Tribute to those that lost their lives and the first responders to the theater tragedy in Lafayette. I watched the video on U-Tube and I had trouble not tearing up. I would like to thanks the Demon band for participating in that, it was beautiful. I was a college bandsman at another university in the 70s when show band routines (as opposed to military style drills) were first getting popular. I was at the time in a very good university band, and when I was in high school, our high school band was rated in the top 10 in the nation 2 out of 4 years. Point being, I know a little about marching bands and the Demons have a very good one. When I first started following UL, the band was awful, but in the last 10 years it has steadily improved. The young man who is currently director was last with LSU as an assistant. He has recruited well and the band is much better than in the past. He is building a band that hopefully will make a name for themselves. They were actually in the Macy’s day parade a couple of times in recent years. Anyway again, thanks to your band for helping to make a memorable halftime performance. As far as the Cajuns, they need to improve in the secondary and the line needs put more pressure on the QB. Last season the defensive line was veteran and put a lot of pressure on the QBs. This year’s defense line is much younger and it is taking some time to gel. The secondary has been racked with injuries so hopefully the bye week will help some heal.
I was really impressed with the last player you guys had playing QB and I think he may be very good in the near future if he is allowed to compete. Good luck going forward, I hope your team wins out.
Sorry for the long post

CW, That's a fair assessment. Thank you. Our offense was two TD dropped passes away from putting up 28 points. Our defense has a long way to go and the Cajuns took advantage of it. And rightfully so. We lost two current NFL players off last year's defense, plus quite a bit of other Senior leadership. It's obvious the Cajuns have a better team than I reckoned due to Kentucky beating South Carolina. I am guilty of underestimating your team. So, I am OK w the result. As my grandfather used to tell me when I wore wins and losses on my sleeve ... "Son, can't but one team win, so somebody has to lose and in the end, it's just a damn ballgame." Good luck the rest of the way in the Sunbelt. You definitely have an upper-echelon offense and possibly the best RB in the conference, if not the country. We have had a few of those. Cherish them. McGuire will play on Sunday's if he stays healthy.
