Sagarin Ratings Service has ULL a three touchdown favorite. Massey Ratings Service has them a two touchdown favorite. I think that is fair until we show we can stop the run and generate more offense. In fact, unless our defense improves, we could give up 40-plus points and unless we get solid QB play, we might not score more than 20 points, if that. It will be a great challenge for us and interesting to see how much we improve against a quality opponent.

Thank you for the kind words. We truly appreciate it. In the end, it's just a game and fun should be had by all. May the game be injury free, as well.

With all due respect to "cajun supporter," this game should not be close and I do represent a vast cross section of Cajun faithfu. LOL, yes we are in the crappy Sun Belt, but CBS has us rated as one of the top 4-5 G5 athletic programs in the nation( ahead of quite a few P5 schools). Thats 2 years running. Thats not a mistake and its not BS. A couple of things have changed since you were here last. You will not be able to park inside of Cajun Field and the tailgating has tripled, maybe quadrupled in size since last time you were here. Also, Ricky Bustle aint the Coach. Have a safe trip down.

First off, you don't represent a vast majority Cajun fans. Having been to many Cajun games I have found the ULL fans to be quite hospitable, respectful. Granted there are a few like yourself but I wouldn't consider you or them representative of the entire ULL fan base. Things have gotten much better around Cajun Field for gameday and I commend your school for that. Lafayette is a growing city and it is good to see our brothers to the south have some success. If we play like we did against SLU I agree that the game will get out of hand. If we play like we are capable of then I have no doubt it will be a close game. You can ask La Tech what happens when schools assume they will simply show up and beat us. I am sure your tailgaiting is quite nice but don't expect us to be impressed with either your tailgaiting or your crowd. We have been to LSU, Montana, North Dakota State, Baylor, Texas Tech and Ole Miss so I assure you that we will be in awe of nothing nor will we be intimidated. With that said, I am taking nothing away from Cajun Field. Your atmosphere will no doubt be top notch and I look forward to tailgating with the Cajun faithful and having a great atmosphere in the stadium. Best of luck this Saturday and I full expect our Demons (team, fans and band) to arrive in full force. It will take a huge effort for our team this weekend but I have faith that we'll step up. Our band is awesome, but they only count the game as official competition. We know the SON band is way better than everyone in the state save LSU's and they are just as good as The Golden Band from Tigerland. As for ULL, Louisiana or whatever the hell they call themselves this week, I hope the game is injury free and fan-friendly. The expression of class will rest on us, however. Every time I have ever gone to their stadium, someone is fighting, pouring beer on cars, breaking off fan flags from windows or stealing shit from opposing players on the team bus. The fruit on the tree from ULL fans is mostly rotten. I apologize to the handful who are classy because their peers are immature and delusional. At least LaTech and ULM fans show a modicum of class on game day. Purp, I'm well aware that the bands do not count in the official competition. I was just pointing it out because there is a good chance that halftime might be our only bright spot in the game. I hope I'm wrong, but after Week 1 I'm not hopeful. Narcissism? As opposed to "knowing our place"? I'll rather live in a delusion of grandeur striving for more, than to assume a comfy position as the doormat that LSU wipes their feet upon. Happily lie beneath them and be content with their condescension? Never, and neither should you. By the way, I'm a Cajun faithful since I completed the overwhelming majority of my coursework on campus at UL. But, my degree says Northwestern State, so I wish the Demons all the same successes that the Cajuns strive for.

Knowing most of the guys who post on here personally I believe we all want NSU to achieve great things. None of us are happy with status quo and we all believe that their is no reason why NSU can't be a bigger presence than we are. We also know that we face many uphill battles to do so. Rest assured that all of us here want NSU to accomplish greater things. None of us believe that we are anyone's doormat nor would we stand for being anyone's doormat. I personally don't have a problem with Cajun fans wanting to achieve more and can respect them for trying to expand their program. Nothing wrong with that and nothing different than what we are trying to accomplish at NSU. I do believe a very small minority of Cajun fans are a bit delusional but they are most definitely the extreme minority. Went to the Tulane-Cajuns bowl game and every Cajun fan I met were first class. Earned a lot of respect for their fan base that night. Also showed me that the fans who tend to look down upon other Louisiana schools are definitely the minority as I didn't witness any of that in New Orleans that night. I have respect for the Cajun fan base and school and look forward to being in Lafayette on Saturday.

My mother lives just outside Lafayette. My brothers were raised there. I love the city and the people of Acadiana, in general. However, Slappy Cajun came by and threw a virtual grenade and ran like a coward. That I do not appreciate. I am happy for ULL's recent success and was pulling for them this past weekend to trump Kentucky. The exact same way I was pulling for them when they almost beat Florida. I know this will be a tough game for us and probably one we will not win this particular year, but to be cropdusted w disrespect is ridiculous. I have no disdain in my heart for ULL and I do wish them well. I was hunkered down in front of my TV watching them try to get back to Omaha against Ole Miss a couple years ago. I pull for all Louisiana schools; some more than others. As for the bands, I shouldn't even comment because the least talented band member at XYZ University is more talented than me. Bottom line, may the best team win, may fun be had by all and may each and every player leave the field healthy. That's about all I have.

I'm sure there are some classy Cajun fans, but all this crap about "tailgaiting" on another level is total horseshit…And they can't fool me because I was once a student at ULL before transferring to NSU. I still remember some of my friends I had there donning their purple and gold and hopping in a car to Baton Rouge on Saturdays. I didn't read this board either before or after our game last year. Your team played very well. I didn't know that Tech fans were "unclassy" on your board. Anyway, I didn't keep up with what NSU did the rest of the year, as I didn't really want to remember our game with you. We were outplayed. How did you finish last year?
I really will be pulling for Northwestern against @ Lafayette. Will the game be televised or on ESPN3?
Thanks

La Tech fans look down on us and have for decades. This isn't a secret. In fact, it's widely known. Personally, I am way over the so-called "rival" between us and accept things as they are. The only rule I keep is no disrespecting us or ours on this board. That is why I reacted to Slappy Cajun the way I did. An overreaction? Maybe. Conversely, what is said on other boards is fair game and none of our business. We finished 6-6 last year. We were so close to a good year, but didn't quite hammer it out. Proof the Southland isn't a pushover conference after all. Now, if the Shreveport Times would cover NSU as well as they do La Tech, the average sports fan would know we finished even two years in a row. BTW, your Bulldogs finished great and had a solid bowl win. I was proud for you all. Life is too short to play sports tribalism games anyway. I mean, it's sports, not life. So, I try to pull for all state schools when possible.

The combined performance of Amazing Grace should be very moving for everyone in attendance. The 300 NSU band members and the 240 ULL band members...over 500 total performers at halftime should make for a very powerful experience. I got to see the Spirit of Northwestern rehearse the combined piece for about 20 minutes and it was already pretty salty without even having practice it very much.
