OUr D ur D was gassed at the end. Really don't like our play calling in the first half.
Looking at a very realistic 0-3 start sadly. I believe we can knock off ULL but it will be tough.
Offense has to get it together quick.

Two observations:
SLU is just better than us. An average of 10 points better than us the past four years. We still have work to do and congrats to the Lions. Their lines dominated us. They were just the better team.
Blumenthal is our starter! He outplayed Hazlewood and Rivers 10x over. Go with Blumenthal, take our lumps this year and have two great years left with him under center.

I've been watching Demon football for more than 40 years and I don't ever remember seeing a Demon football team that was as unprepared in every single facet of the game as this team was last night. I know there are a lot of Jay Thomas fans on this Board, but wtf? His team was completely unprepared, he was completely disengaged, and he didn't take part in any sideline huddles during the game. Offensively our play calling was infantile and predictable. Could he have suggested to his OC that run, run, pass on every series until they got behind by three scores was a little obvious? SLU stacked 10 men in the box through 3 quarters because EVERY ONE in the stadium knew we were going to run on 1st and 2nd down. We're running a read-option with a 7-foot quarterback who runs the 40 in 5 seconds? We have an All-American wide receiver and several others who are clearly talented and we're not trying to get them the ball on 1st or 2nd down and open up our run game? Our offensive line is manhandled in the run game and overpowered in the passing game? Our most valuable player is our kicker? Our third-string quarterback is the only one who can get the ball in the end zone? Why is our 3rd stringer our only dual threat? For that matter, why was he third-string? Defensively we couldn't tackle or cover. Did our ends ever have contain? Why were our safeties making all the tackles? Thank goodness SLU's receivers couldn't catch a cold sitting naked on an ice flow, or they would have had 50 points! I know it's only one game, and I don't want to read the trolls who say it's one game and blast a truth-teller for being honest, but...let's get real. NSU football has been mired in mediocrity for way too long (kinda makes you feel nostalgic for Steve Roberts).... And don't tell me it's money and facilities because we have conference champions and NCAA playoff participants in every other sport. This Demon team was so woefully unprepared and unimaginative last night that I'm afraid that ULL may put up 50 and Mississippi State may put up 70 and at that point, with an apparent lack of leadership at the top, the Demon season will be over before it begins. I hope I'm wrong, and I will be in my seat like I have for 40+ years, but dang! If we can't block, if we can't run, if we can't throw, if we can't tackle, if we can't cover punts.. it's going to be ANOTHER long season. It may not sound like I like Jay Thomas, I do, he's a class act, but c'mon coach, it's not the money, it's not the facilities, it's not anything other than a total lack of leadership and preparedness. 0-1 and being uncompetitive and ill-prepared in the first game is not the end of the world, but it will take much more leadership from the HC to compete for a playoff berth than what was on display last night.

Real-i-TEA is a bitter drink sometimes. You, sir, just nailed it. I think we all love Jay and believe in him, but we sh*t the bed last night. Period! Now, if our third-stringer would have started the game, this would have been a totally different game and our defense would not have been gassed quite as early and SLU wouldn't have been on the field as much running the ball. But, if's and but's were candy and nuts ... and you know the rest of the story. Our defense worries me more than our offense, really. Blumenthal is the guy and he proved that immediately last night. Some guys practice well and others are just gamers and Blumenthal is a gamer. I still think we can win six or seven and I still think the future is bright, but that hump we're having to get over is a tall son-of-a-gun. But, we'll get there!!! In the end, let's not disrespect our opponent. SLU is a very good football team, especially defensively, and we showed some moxie against them when we could have folded. I think we're going to be OK.

I was fearful of this happening when they brought in Rivers. The rotating qb system never works, this just wasn't handled well by the coaching staff I hate to say and he just isn't the guy. Jay talks a lot about building for the future and takes in a senior qb transfer who takes away game and practice snaps from the younger guys and now we are in the situation we're in…Im really disappointed in the way that all went down. Defensively, I really don't know. It was pretty clear that SLU could not throw the football so I have no idea why the box wasn't loaded in an attempt to stop their devastating rushing attack that we clearly weren't prepared for and didn't adjust to whatsoever. First game, so I am not getting too down but that was a very awesome student turnout last night and we crapped our pants. Hats off to Southeastern, that staff clearly out coached ours and I wish them the best of luck.

SLU is a very good football team, especially defensively, and we showed some moxie against them when we could have folded. I think we're going to be OK. Thanks. After watching the Lions Spring Game, practices and Fall scrimmage; I came away thinking that the Demons are a very good football team. Our offense looked very similar to your offense, in the Fall scrimmage. The Lion defense is a top 10 FCS defense and possibly a top five defense. So I was very impressed with the comeback and was definitely glad the Demons didn't get the ball back down by 6! I listened to the Natchitoches local radio post game show last night and was a little disappointed that one of the commentators thought Southeastern was over rated to be in the top 20. I think the pallet of work that the Lions have presented over the past four years under Ron Roberts should not be discounted. The Lions have many FBS transfers and Rival 2-3 star players, so I don't believe the Lions or Demons play should be discounted. In fact, as one of the board's posters previously stated, this game will make both teams better. I wouldn't get too down on Rivers yet, he just played a defense that feeds off pocket passers. The read option is a better offense against the Lions' aggressive style. All you have to do is get to the post season and anything can happen.

I think SLU definitely has a Top 5-10 FCS defense. Without a doubt. I am not worried at all. Lots of NSU fans want success and we wanted it years ago. Peveto set this program back a decade. He's a great guy, but we took a nosedive with him at the helm and we were already starting to slide in Stoker's final years. So, recovery from all that won't happen overnight. Jay Thomas will fix it. We just need to be patient. If Blumenthal starts, the game could have been totally different, but he didn't and we're 0-1. That's life. We just need to move forward. Good luck to the Lions the rest of the way. I fully expect your team to compete for the SLC championship again.

As the radio play-by-play guy, I will take issue with this comment. You misunderstood what the analyst said. He said he felt the Lions were underrated and should be higher in the polls than they are.

My quick observations:
- Best student crowd EVER, and I go back to the 60s with seeing Demon games. The "Demon Line" equivalent to the Baylor Line was incredible, kudos to Henderson if he has had anything to do with this.
- Southeastern controlled both the offensive and defensive lines, that was the story of the game. Southeastern was every bit as good as advertised and deserving of their ranking(s). They were clearly the better team last night.
- It might be tough to win the next two given the opponents, but to be in this game throughout was not bad in the grand scheme of things.
- It did look like we were a bit unprepared, especially silly substitution penalties. We were not ready.
- Blumenthal definitely looked like the real deal last night and sparked the comeback. Hazlewood not bad and definitely better than Rivers. SLU's defense had something to do with the showings.
- Demon inflatable was a nice touch. Really good crowd, especially for a Thursday night.

The Demon Line has been going on for several years, dating back to the first time NSU played Baylor. Maybe 2007. The Athletic Dept started it. Was never better than it was on Thurs.

I don't mean to be a Debbie Downer but I agree with whoever said that it would seem, after the SLU loss, that "our season is pretty much over before it get's started" as we'll most likely head 0-3 into SLC play.
Looking at the remaining schedule: ULL - loss Miss. St. - bad loss UCA - win UIW - win Lamar - win, but could go either way McNeese - loss, haven't won in LC since Stoker was the QB nicholls - win, down at nicholls so could easily be a bad loss given our history down there ACU - win Sam - bad loss SFA - loss, but could go either way
This will be, UNFORTUNATELY, a 5-6 year.
