I understand we could have some key additions to the football team in the next few days/weeks. Stay tuned. I have been sworn to secrecy because all the deals aren't closed yet. However, it sounds like Coach Thomas and staff are playing to win. Hope so because we have a brutal schedule ahead of us.

I don't know any names. I just know there are some kids from BCS level teams looking at NSU. I'm sure it will be announced sooner than later if they decide to come to Natchitoches. Based on numbers, we should get two or three of them.

Figure of speech, man ... figure of speech. Don't read too much into a forum post. Hard to read someone's emotions from them. I meant this staff is going the extra mile to attempt to put a dynamic, winning, playoff-worthy team on the field. We haven't had a winning (playoff) team since 2004 and even then we were demolished by Montana in the first-round. Last season is as good as we have been in a decade or more. Hopefully we can build on what they accomplished.

Not to toot my own horn (At least not too loud anyway). Here is a quote from back in February, per the Signing Day thread, to refresh a little memory. Back then, the word was Oregon, Ole Miss (not mentioned above), as well as a few others. It sure would be nice to pick up some insurance and depth headed into this year. Especially after what we saw happen to our Defensive Line.

I understand we will know by month's end who we have picked up.

Oh, man, no worries at all. This is just emotional sports banter and never, ever should be taken as serious as what truly matters in life. We're good to go.

By the way, I recently heard we will have new uniforms this season ... AND ... we will have alternating helmets ... purple and white. You can catch a glimpse of the white helmet on Facebook -- Northwestern State Demons -- Victory Tour schedule. Looks great.

The white helmets look really nice, hope we use them as our primary helmet. It's about time we update our look.

www.nola.com/recruiting/index.ssf/2015/06/st_pauls_2016_qb_kenny_sears_c.html#incart_related_stories Gents: I know this is early but it appears Jay Thomas and staff are not missing a beat. From my point-of-view there seems to be a new energy in Natchitoches. Dang, Kenny Sears has size and presence. I think he is the St. Paul coaches son. Anyway, good luck on the transfers and the Demon Fall Camp. Looking forward to this year game in "The Hole" in Lake Charles. Also, Keep an eye on that Beck kid from Alexandria. 6-7 217 (QB). Still raw, but coached by Coach Sam Goodwin. Hmmn? You guys know the rest.

Well, it's official ... Stephen Rivers, 6'7"-235lbs, QB, from LSU/Vanderbilt is now an NSU Demon. The story can be found on the athletic website. For reference, his brother, Phillip Rivers, is the QB of the San Diego Chargers. Stephen has one year of eligibility left and will be finishing his Masters that he started at Vanderbilt at NSU. Welcome aboard, Mr. Rivers ... may you find the pasture very green in Natchitoches.

First off, I love the new white helmets. That was our look when we were a contender in the late 90s/early 2000s and I love that we went back to it.
Secondly, I don't like the fact we brought in Stephen Rivers. And I honestly have never seen the guy play. I think Hazlewood has waited his turn and deserves the starting job, and Blumenthal is a more than capable backup. Not to mention JD Almond who can flat out play as well. We are very deep at qb and I just flat out don't understand the move. Plus it'll be all over the papers and I don't want any publicity like this brought on the program, I've always liked how Jay keeps things under the radar and this just doesn't make sense to me. I just don't want another Chris Garrett/Quentin Castille debacle. I don't know, at the end of the day I trust Jay, but from a fan perspective, Im not thrilled.
