Rivers doesn't have the starting job yet. Now, he will probably win it, but Hazelwood is only one snap away from playing and it will be his team next year. Fabrizio will likely move to WR. Blumenthal could play WR this year, too. He's very fast. Almond will likely follow Hazelwood. Maybe sharing snaps w Blumenthal. I would like to see Fleeton move to HB or, for his sake, transfer to a smaller school closer to his home like West or North Alabama, Valdosta State or even Alabama A&M or Alabama State. Hope he stays, though.

JUCO All-American WR -- William Mafi -- 6'2"-190lbs -- is now a member of the NSU football team. That gives us Ed Eagan, Cody Jones, Tuff McClain, Shakeir Ryan, Bobby Chan Chan, William Mafi, Bryson Bourque, Nick Fabrizio, Cameron Lazare, Rondarious Morris, Marlon Horne, Larry Copeland and Jordan Kennedy to catch the ball. That doesn't count Zach White, Chase Hawthorne, Josh Hunt and Will Cooper at TE and Demard Llorens, Chris Jones, Daniel Taylor, Ronald Green, Matt Flores or Nigel Dora at RB who could be catching passes, too. It's pretty obvious, we're going to throw the ball A LOT this fall.

Purplestorm, you left a couple of current receivers (on the roster on the website) off of your list. Are the ones you didn't list no longer on the team? I haven't heard Fabrizio has actually been moved to wide receiver. Is that move official? I have also been told one of the running backs you listed didn't make his grades (just a rumor). Because you seem to know things before the rest of us your information is always appreciated. Thanks

Playerdad, I was going strictly off memory, so I apologize for leaving anyone off that truly unofficial list. I haven't heard that Fabrizio move is official, but with his speed and all the competition ahead of him at QB, I'm guessing the coaches might want him on the field somehow. How? I don't know. Same goes for Blumenthal. Both are very fast and can help the team in other places if under center isn't happening this particular year. As for the RB, I have heard that rumor, but I don't know if it has any merit. I was told he might be redshirted since he hasn't redshirted yet. These kids have to make their grades to play. That's not too much to ask and if they can't, well, it's next man up. Also, my information comes from a couple sources of which I have to temper because it often is not "official," but that which is stirred about and could be official, but might not be in the end. This is why I speak in code these days. I don't want to put the cart ahead of the horse, if you will. In the end, we're finally building our depth and talent levels to what they used to be, so that in itself is exciting. As for who wins starting spots and who is second or even third team, that's beyond me. I just know we need a team to win and not a bunch of individuals with talent. So, I'm hoping this loaded cupboard brings fruit on the field. We'll see ...

I like the depth and talent that Jay is building as well. I like the size of our team and the depth that it doesn't seem like we've had in a long time, especially in the front 7. The qb race will be very interesting to see unfold, i would bet that Stephen Rivers will be the starting qb on sept 3, but I also think Daniel Hazlewood is a star if given the chance.

Hazelwood will be a star before he leaves ... if he is patient. Obviously, the coaches were not happy with the depth at backup or they would have never brought in another QB. I have a feeling we will see Rivers and Hazelwood this year. Hazelwood and Blumenthal next year and Almond and Blumenthal the following year. This doesn't count the fact that Frabrizio and incoming safety freshman Ryan Reed can run the Wildcat any of these years. Fleeton, for now, seems to be the odd man out, but that could change in fall camp. I'm glad we have Rivers because he or Hazelwood are only one play away from leaving or seeing the field. I would place Almond at third string for now because he's been in the system longer, but Blumenthal is one of the fastest men on the team, so he can't be ignored. Maybe he will move to WR for now. I don't know if he will, though. Same for Fabrizio ... very fast and great athlete. Going to be interesting and I hope no player pouts and leaves pissed off because this is real life. High school is over, so suck it up and welcome to the real world. Fleeton is the only man on the depth chart at QB that has a legit reason to leave. He's from Alabama, he's not a transfer and has been in the system going on three years and is talented enough to start at a SWAC or DII school, for sure.

I kinda hope they redshirt Blumenthal….That guy is great from what i have seen and if it wasn't so clogged at QB could start this year for us. Just too explosive to keep off the field, shirt him and then he has 3 years left after this one. I am really excited about this team, if the schedule wasn't so brutal I'd say we have a legitimate shot at the playoffs. 7-4 would be a good season and 6-5 may be the reality. The important thing is we are competitive and give ourselves a chance to beat any conference team and go into the last weekend with something more than the chief on the line.
Is it almost sept 3rd yet?

This is shaping up to be the best roster we have had in years. Can't wait till this season starts, quite excited for the future.

The fall football roster should be up in the next couple weeks or so. It will include all current players, incoming freshmen and late transfers. As always, we will lose a few players to attrition for various reasons. Finally, I also understand there could be a late straggler or two on the transfer end, as well. The strongest aspects of this team will be WR/TE, OL, DL and DB. We will also be solid at RB/FB and LB. The TBD position is QB, which will make us or break us.

We picked up a RB from Brother Martin as a late signee for this fall. Jared West -- 5'9"-195lbs.

Welcome Glenn Irons -- WR -- 5'9"-170lbs -- Edna Karr/Nebraska -- to the fold. This gives us several legit WRs (Eagan, McClain, C. Jones, Mafi, Ryan, Irons, Bourque, N. Fabrizio, Lazare, Chan Chan, Kennedy, Morris, Copeland, Horne, Richard, etc.). I think Monrose graduated. We're going to need a QB that can chunk the rock this fall, for sure. I don't care if his last name is Hazelwood, Rivers, Almond, Blumenthal or Skinner, as long as he gets the job done. As predicted, T.J. Fleeton's name is missing because he has decided to transfer to another university. I don't know where he went, but I wish him the best. He's very talented, but just got caught up in a wave of QB's. Smart move on his behalf, really.

we are absolutely loaded at WR receiver. we will create serious matchup problems with all of the speed we can put on the field. Blumenthal is too talented a QB to move him to receiver. I think I would consider redshirting him. As for Rivers believe me we did not bring him in with one year left just to compete for a job. He is the starter and it is his job to lose. To be honest I don't know how I feel about that. Next year we will be in the same position, several good QB's but no one with any experience. In my opinion we better win the conference or make the playoffs with him, otherwise what have we gained? I love the way the roster is shaping up. We are getting big and deep. It will not be fun playing us that's for sure.

My only concern about this season is QB and team chemistry. Everything else is in place to be great to good enough!
