Alright, we were beaten soundly in Lafayette. We had some moments, but the Cajuns are just better than we are. I wish them the best the rest of the year. Now, on to Ruston and La Tech. Do we have a chance? Yes, we always do against any mid-level FBS team, but if we don't improve from last night, and I think we will, we'll lose by three TDs. All this said, all that matters is we compete well on our level starting Sept. 16. I think we have the most talent, on paper, than we have had in awhile. Let's see if the coaches can help them put it all together.

There just wasn't a lot of what I saw saturday night that invoked a lot of confidence. Aside from some great plays here and there on the defensive side of the ball, I just didn't see improvement from last year. Kind of more of the same. We had excellent opportunities to grab a lead early and totally shit the bed by blowing two takeaways that gave us the ball in the redzone. I really hope Im wrong, and if I am will get on here and own it, but we look to be in for another long season. A very weak southland conference is our only chance to make our record respectable. Despite what I just said I sincerely hope it was just some opening game rust and we get it going here in the next few weeks. Vander Waal has to play better if we hope to do that. 12/28 for 110 isn't gonna cut it if we also can't run the football. The offense as a whole has to play better, gaining 187 yards against a very mediocre ULL team is not a stat i was hoping to see after the game. But its a long season. We'll see how it plays out.

Most FCS teams don't look great when playing an FBS team. Against Tech, the main thing I want will be better execution. For instance, if we have an incomplete pass, why was it not completed? It's one thing if it's not completed because a Tech player makes a good play & knocks it away. It's another thing if it's not completed because our QB missed an open receiver or the receiver dropped it.
I think we have some talent, but we have to cut out mistakes. If the execution is there, we will look a lot better when we start playing teams on our level.

Other southland teams like Nicholls and slu have lost to ULL in the final minutes outgaining them in yardage. They gave us so many chances to make this a very competitive game and we lacked any bit of execution and looked anemic offensively.

Good luck to the coaches and players tonight. It's beginning to cool off a little. That means hunting season is around the corner. I'll follow the next few games and then I'll be in deep in them woods for weeks. You'd think with all the hunters in the area we'd add camouflage to our uniforms. Heck, they already have orange in'em. I bet our camouflage t-shirts would sell like sacks of deer corn in October. I think we might play a lil' better this evening. A win? I reckon that might be a tall order, but it can be done. We've done it before. Enjoy your weekend, boys.

Massey Ratings has La Tech favored by 25 points. He had ULL favored by 35. Sagarin's predictions will be similar. We lost by 25, and probably should have been around 19 or less had we taken advantage of our red zone opportunities. ULL is just better than us. No excuses. So, if we improve from Week One to Week Two, we may put up a fight tonight. Hard to tell. La Tech will be playing their 3rd game, so I am sure they have worked out some kinks, as well. We have some talent on this team. Can we put it together, and if we can, when will that be?

Gotta have better play from the quarterback position if we have a chance to keep it close. Tech is nothing special and if anything this should not be a blowout, I want to be optimistic and take the under, if we don't cover and its more of what we saw last week then my hope will dwindle for a good season. Like stinger said, the greatest improvements for teams comes between week 1 & 2, so i really am hoping for a much improved Demon offense.

Four penalties in two drives? Punter is averaging 27.5 yards on two pints? Yeah, OK.

The middle of our DL seems soft. I remember someone on here mentioning the DE's could be that way. They aren't. Our punter is averaging about 27 yards per punt, and our QB, going back to last week, is 15-36 for 148 yards. He could get into a rhythm and those numbers would improve. That would be encouraging. We can possibly fix the defensive middle, but how do you fix the punting situation? Averaging 27 or so yards a kick isn't OK. Not even in high school.

Our QB can run for a big guy. If he ever gains confidence in the passing game, he could become quite a threat. Not sure what to make of this team. We seem outclassed for awhile and then we go down and score. So, it feels like we should be way behind and here we are within three points.

Very sloppy on special teams. Terrible, in fact. Overall, outside of intermittent improvement, we have digressed from last week, it seems. About 70 percent of La Tech's yards have come on four plays that all resulted in touchdowns. I came out to follow the game tonight in hopes we would compete fairly well. We haven't. I'm going to watch a movie.

OK, not watching a movie yet. Impressive start. This shows gumption.
