All I know is that the "Spirit of Northwestern" is making the trek to Lafayette to blow the Pride of Acadiana out of the stadium at halftime. Other than that I have no prognostication for the game. I know Lafayette had a decent showing vs. Kentucky and we had a poor, unprepared showing vs. SLU.

ULL will be a very tough opponent, but it's not an unwinnable game like the one in Starkville the following week. We have to play much, much better and get great production from our QB(s), however. We were only three or four plays away from being a 9-3 team last year and playoff bound (pick six and missed FG against SLU, early fumble against McNeese, taken away pick to seal game at SFA). I'm not sure this year's team is as good as last year's, even though we have more depth and talent. The good news is when we do gel, we'll be very good.

Back to the SLU game...I think get the feeling that the coaches had it in their mind that we have a power running game and didn't want to abandon that when we had a HUGE advantage in the passing game and at the WR position that we refused to take exploit because of "it's going to eventually work" mindset.
Only thing that keeps us in the game next weekend is if we can get the ball to our WR's and Blumenthal can gash at Lafayette for some runs to open up the running game. I expect a loss but hopefully a respectable game before we get slaughtered at Miss. St.

I have no idea how this game will go down, I think we are a little too light in the britches at LB and without Adam Jones our secondary just isn't what it was last year. Not feeling great about it and what happens if Blumenthal has a couple bad possessions? does the musical chairs at qb start up again?

DTNSU -- We could win or lose every game after Mississippi State. And if we're not going to the playoffs, 5-6 is the same as 6-5 is the same as even 7-4. You either get into the post-season or you regroup for the following season. The rest is semantics among fans or bollocks bowl games for the "everyone gets a trophy" lower half of FBS. So, I'm OK with 5-6 if we're continuing to build for the future. Cajun, I think Blumenthal is the future and I think this year will be a transition year to figuring that part out. I'm not saying Rivers or Hazlewood can't contribute, but Blumenthal is the QB that can take us on a playoff run over the next two seasons. That's just my humble opinion.

Gentlemen we appreciate your enthusiasm, but this game shouldn't be close. I suspect the score will be similar to your Ms State game the following week. Have a safe trip down and enjoy the tailgating, it has on a different level than anything you'll encounter in the SLC or anywhere else for that matter

"Enthusiasm"? Most of us are assuming this game will be a loss.
Can't say I disagree with you on the score prediction but we've seen plenty of good tailgating throughout the years. We've played our share of Big12, SEC, CUSA, Sunbelt teams the past 15 years as well as your very own Cajuns four times since 1998. I'm sure the tailgating experience is great but "on a different level" is probably a bit of an embellishment.

Funny, that is exactly what LaTech fans said last year. But, this year, you are probably right. We have some work to do and are probably a year away from being "good," so you best not struggle against us football nobody's. You best be glad we didn't play you last year, though. The embarrassment would be thick from Ruston to Lafayette. Now, the Cajuns looked good against Kentucky in the 2nd-half and believe it or not, I was pulling for you, which is something you upper crust boys would struggle doing in cheering for or acknowledging us. But, we have plenty of LSU fans that have adopted us as their FCS team because they don't have such "sense of football place" insecurities. They know they are the big dog ... well, big cat and we are smart enough to know it, too! How did that smack talk work out for y'all the last time you played the McNeese nobody's, BTW? You know, it's interesting how our lil' nobody school did put two players off last year's team in the NFL this season. How many did ULL have stick? Even so, I am expecting ULL to beat us this year and am not delusion about my team. Speaking of delusion, got your bags packed for the 2015 New Orleans bowl yet? I mean, some FBS juggernaut awaits.

Seriously, we are well aware this is not the best team we've fielded and are predicting a loss. Get over yourself. You're in the freakin sun belt, don't pretend it's some elite league with tailgating on par with the real FBS schools.

Hey now, one more new orleans bowl victory over east carolina and that SEC invite is right around the corner Because you know…this guy basically said they're on the same level as Miss State. I really want to know what its like to go through life with that much delusion.

Not that anyone cares...but the Spirit of Northwestern will out class and out perform the Pride of Acadiana at halftime. I suspect they'll put up a good fight but due to the SoN having a distinct size advantage the PoA will resort to overplaying their instruments and will make some Grambling-esque type sounds doing so.

ULL game

Our band is awesome, but they only count the game as official competition. We know the SON band is way better than everyone in the state save LSU's and they are just as good as The Golden Band from Tigerland. As for ULL, Louisiana or whatever the hell they call themselves this week, I hope the game is injury free and fan-friendly. The expression of class will rest on us, however. Every time I have ever gone to their stadium, someone is fighting, pouring beer on cars, breaking off fan flags from windows or stealing shit from opposing players on the team bus. The fruit on the tree from ULL fans is mostly rotten. I apologize to the handful who are classy because their peers are immature and delusional. At least LaTech and ULM fans show a modicum of class on game day.

I'm sure there are some classy Cajun fans, but all this crap about "tailgaiting" on another level is total horseshit…And they can't fool me because I was once a student at ULL before transferring to NSU. I still remember some of my friends I had there donning their purple and gold and hopping in a car to Baton Rouge on Saturdays.

ULL game

I used to like pulling for USL/ULL. When they beat TAMU, I was elated for them. But, something happens to a human being when money, status and envy becomes the object of desire. ULL fans have begun to drink the Kool-Aid and it will bite them in the butt. Hudspeth, who is a very good coach, won't stay forever and he will be hard to replace. LSU always will be the pinnacle of college football in Louisiana. Everyone else just kind of falls in line and that line is fuzzy year-in and year-out. It would be nice to be able to check box scores for ULL and LaTech and be happy for them when they win as they represent the state we live in, but their fan bases don't really represent the state, as a whole. They think they're something more than they really are and that in the medical world is called narcicissm, which is classified as a legitimate disorder. The truth is, they are much closer to the Southland than the SEC, no matter how much they think they aren't. Now, ULL has a good football team and at least five or six of their starting players will get looks from scouts. But, at least three or four of ours will, too. I expect this to be a 41-24 or 45-28-type ballgame. We just aren't there yet, but if they played us every year, we'd leave them the same way we have many times in the past, befuddled that they lost to us ... yet again.

I was just pointing it out because there is a good chance that halftime might be our only bright spot in the game. I hope I'm wrong, but after Week 1 I'm not hopeful.
