I have no idea where this program is headed in wins and losses, but I can tell you Coach Laird is a good guy. Administration just extended him another season as most of the team is returning. I guess they see potential in returning him and the rest of the staff. I see your grandson has offers from the military academies. If he wants a military career, that's where he should go. If not, Natchitoches is a short ride from Minden and NSU is a great school academically for a small university. This is truly a personal decision, but he would be well taken care of at NSU and get a solid education. At some point, we need "local" kids to step in and pull us out of the past 15 years and put us back on track. When we were on track, we were sending guys to the NFL annually. Your grandson could be part of that group. Maybe. Thank you for considering NSU no matter what decision is made. He also has offer from UNLV, Lamar and Grambling. Is actively being recruited by Mississippi State, Colorado and UL. Being recruited doesn’t mean an offer will come. He doesn’t want to do Military. So if he decides to go far off it will be UNLV. If he decides to stay close I am thinking NSU. Lots can happen between now and then. Coach Hopkins wants him badly. Had a great camp there this summer.

Former NSU OC Todd Cooley has Delta State flying high and in the D-II playoffs. He's the one we let get away because he was attached to Coach Peveto. I am not saying Coach Laird should be fired. I am saying if he isn't let go that he is very lucky. We no longer live in the times of allowing these type of poor coaching performances over three seasons, much less five seasons. Even the fans have responded. Look at attendance the past two seasons. As Cajun stated above, we celebrated beating poorer teams in conference, but we were handily beaten by proper FCS competition and even by Grambling, who is not very good. Whatever happens will happen, but if we measure coaches by their win-Loss record, change is coming. If we measure coaches on building young me into men and allowing everyone to learn on the job, then there may be no change. If the latter happens, the fans will respond again by not showing up unless we fix this program, which is just one level above cellar dweller, and start competing and winning again. Enough is enough, whichever decision is made. If he stays, great, go get better and end this. If he doesn't, I hope we finally hire someone who can get the job done. You don't have to be great very often to stay at NSU, but you do need a better record than what we have seen since 2008. This isn't too much to demand by the admin, fans, and a coach who wants to be seen as capable of getting it done. Maybe Laird stays and we win 8 games next year? Who knows? All I know is this recent run of 3-4 wins a season shouldn't be considered adequate. If it is, this football program is finished. Cooley was a train wreck followed by a dumpster fire. Tunnel screen, tunnel screen, QB draw....punt! (not-so-brilliant play call)

What really gets to me is the fact that UIW as a program is like 10 years old and has skyrocketed past us in that time with a high school stadium and trailers as offices. We haven't had a winning season since a weak schedule with two d2 teams on it got us to 7-5 in 2008, and haven't won a conference championship in 18 years. UIW has hired well. They have decision makers in their athletic department that have made wise and bold decisions and brought in young, energetic, innovative coaches that have escalated them to a level where they are in the semifinals of the FCS playoffs. The last time we had a winning season or were in the playoffs they didn't have a program. Think about that...we continue to make lazy decisions and allow losing to continue by not making changes when they need to be made, and hiring very poorly. There have been more than several coaches that have applied for our job when we had it open that we passed on that have been hired by our conference brethren and won at those schools. This bozo mentality that we "were close to a conference championship" is a mirage. We weren't close, we were clearly no where near the level UIW was at several Saturdays ago. Nicholls will bounce back, I have a hard time believing McNeese will allow losing much longer and make a change and or get back to their winning ways in the next few seasons. Those schools have standards, where we clearly are content with losing. A&M Commerce fired Bailiff for going 5-6 in their first year in Division 1 and beating SLU, and we are praising the current staff for 4 and freaking 7. F*&k That, it makes me sick. I hate to be this guy, I know losing a job is hard. Ive been there, and i know Brad has a family to take care of and bills to pay etc. But results have to come. He is 16-35 and i don't see on what planet that is acceptable. Demon football used to be something I was so proud of and garnered respect. We are a laughing stock and almost irrelevant to a point of apathy by our opponents. As a fan and alumni who invests his time and money to support this program I am beyond frustrated and disappointed. I'm tired of excuses, I don't have ears for that anymore - Look at UIW or SLU's stadium and facilities tell me that with a straight face. We can win here, we don't deserve to with the administration we've allowed to continue to run this thing into the ground for the past 15 years, but its very possible, we can have a winning program. With that brings in money and can elevate our image and success with everything else. Lets hope that comes at some point before I get put in the ground, but i won't hold my breath.
Rant over.

I watched someone talk about Cooley who is at Delta State, but I want to go bigger picture. Does anyone know who Cooley replaced? Well, I'll just say a coach in the Sun Belt with multiple 10 win seasons in Jamey Chadwell who replaced Ron Roberts who is currently DC at Baylor and former SELA coach. Let's go a step further...why didn't we jump on a hot coach like Willie Fritz? We always look for the good ole boy hire or the hyped up coach that was just a special teams coordinator ultimately. All of the young innovative minds at the D2 and D3 levels...but we choose to be plain janes. I've talked before about us going in circles. This is true because look at the staff now and think about Stoker's last year. We have the DC that coached under Stoker as a head coach and an understudy that is our current DC that he coached with at Sam Houston. What did we change? Not a darn thing. When people say we've been in the same position for the past 15 years...just look at coaching circle. The shining moment in the past 15 years is a win over LaTech...outside of that...we are below mediocre. Bingo. Good ole boys hire. That idiotic narrative that we "hAvE to HirE a LoUisAnA gUy" has also led us to this point as well. Lance Leipold and Willie Fritz both applied for our job and neither one was given an interview because they were from Missouri and Wisconsin...they were winners and the reason we aren't is because we pass on coaches like that, and they aren't the only ones.

There was hope the University was going in a different direction when the previous AD left, although he only moved to a different office, and a new guy was brought in. But apparently, he has not been allowed to hire his own choice of personnel. Still left with the "good ole boy" hire. Staying with a coach who has a 5 year losing record says the Administration is not interested in changing the status quo. When the seats are empty, and the contributions cease, then maybe someone will take notice.

When I was in school we could easily get 12k for homecoming. People like myself who live in Texas or Baton Rouge/New Orleans just dont see the drive worth it anymore. I don't invite anyone to come for games because as much fun as we have at tailgating, the game is usually over at the half and then its a 4 hour drive back to Dallas. That just gets old after doing it for the past 15 years.
