Texas A&M Commerce is doing 2 announcements on Tuesday. 1 at 11am on campus. And another at 3pm in Frisco at Toyota Stadium. I assume it will mention the other schools. And Commerce will be D1 as of July 1st 2022

That is huge news and great for the SLC. I wonder who the other schools will be?

The Southland is a train wreck. McNeese and Incarnate Word are leaving for the WAC. Word is that SLU and Nicholls are making presentations to the WAC for membership too. There would be an East and West Division of the WAC.

If that's the case, without the Lone Star Conference teams moving up or SWAC defections, I don't see how the conference survives. Do you have a source?

Southland is dead, long live the southland. Watch Burke fold football next. He's incompetent, has been for a decade. NSU will not be good at football until hes gone.

Yep its official. McNeese and Incarnate Word have left for the WAC while we do nothing. The conference will have to fold or merge with another one. This makes me sick to my stomach.

At this rate, we ought to be able to get into CUSA. Lol. JK. May as well go D2 and join the Arkansas and Mississippi teams if this is how it all plays out. That or just go independent. The realities of the WAC may be more stark than seeing it on paper. Travel will be beastly in that new conference. Sam Houston will go CUSA. SFA will go CUSA if given the chance. So, that leaves McNeese, UIW, SLU, Tarleton, Lamar, and Nicholls, if the latter two join. Good luck on all them long bus rides. I saw somebody on here a year or two back say we should join forces with ULM. There may not be a better time for it. That double-directional name ain't doing us no favors now, is it? So, ULM isn't succeeding to speak of and neither are we. Together, we might be a salty opponent. Between the transfer portal, conference realignments, and players signing money deals, the honor of the sport has near 'bout been left behind. It's just another sport now. It will be what it will be.

A merger with the A-Sun is possible or the defacto OVC Teams. It's a huge blow to the conference. Now the question is, do the Lone Star Conference teams join the Southland?

I have always been taught that if somebody wants to walk out of your life, let'em. Wish'em the best and move on with your life. Lamenting what could have been or what was is a waste of time. NSU needs to focus on NSU, not McNeese, Sam, SFA or Lamar. If we right the ship, the rest will fall into place no matter who we play. If we don't right the ship, we'll be D2 or D3 in a decade or less.

Basically we have three bad options in front of us: 1) Apply for membership in the SoCon and have a brutal travel plan that bankrupts an athletic department that is already the smallest in the former Southland Conference. 2) Drop to Division 2 and apply for membership in Lone Star or some other conference. 3) Flounder about as an FCS Independent until the ship sinks and we succumb to a worse fate of killing our athletic program (or at least football). The positive side of this deal is harder to arrive at, but still possible. The Southland could try a merger with SoCon and form an east and west division schedule. This would still require adding a couple more teams from Division II. Right now, the general landscape of college athletics is a mess. Perhaps we could equate it to a dumpster fire set by the NCAA with intentions of burning off the FCS and FBS mid-major conferences. It's working.

You are correct, but what the NCAA doesn't realize is the Power 5 is gonna burn them as soon as they can. Once the Power 5's arrive at 16-18 teams apiece, it's over for the NCAA as their governing body. A new one will be created. So, I reckon the NCAA should play nicer to the FBS mid-majors and FCS programs. They're gonna need us when that big money hammer falls and they are left out in the cold.
