There was a time I used to be embarrassed if Nicholls beat us in football.
This year we haven’t been in position to win a game. No reason we shouldn’t have been competitive with anyone but LSU
All I’m asking is for us to be competitive this week. For us to have a chance to win. I feel for the young men representing NSU. I can’t imagine how they feel going through this,
Winning this game will depend on 3 things
1. No turnovers. Nicholls will feast on a short field.
2. Hold little NSU to under 400 yards and eliminate big plays. Last few years we would have the Colonels contained only for them to break offa huge gain (seriously, cover the TE on a play action). Colonels thrive on time of possession . They win TOP and they win the game
3. No 3 and outs. Goes to the last point. Nicholls is very physical. Imperative that our defense gets rest. Our D will wear down if forced to stop Nicholls all game on short rest .
I believe we have the talent to win this. Hope our Demons know that we haven’t given up on them.
Time to stop feeling sorry for ourselves and take care of business

All great observations. This will be a big test against a real good team.

Nicholls seems to be a force and also a legitimate conference frontrunner/playoff participant and well we are heading in a different direction. Being 0-5 just sucks, i was in school during the 0-11 year of 2009 and that was such a bummer.
Nichs 48-17. Hope I'm wrong.

Cajun is right. If we play the way we've played in the first five games, we'll be beaten soundly. I don't know if by 31 points as he predicts, but soundly. We'll have to play to our fullest potential and have Nicholls a bit flat to come close to winning anything in Thibodaux. It's very hard to win down there when you have a great team, much less fielding one of your worse teams. At least thus far and it kills me to type that. Our of our best teams ever in 1998 almost lost in Thibodaux to a Nicholls team with about half the talent on the roster. The Colonels deserves our utmost respect, attention and focus. They have worked hard to earn respect and anyone who doesn't give it is just being ornery or still living in the past. These are different times until we decide we've had enough of looking up from the bottom. It's up to us.

First of all, congrats to Nicholls State. They were the better team today. That said, not by a lot. I didn't see this vaunted, feared football team on the field that everyone eluded to before the game. I think the Southland, top-to-bottom, is down this year and will not make many waves in the playoffs. In fact, the Southland hasn't made many waves at all in the playoffs since SHSU's runs to the NC several years back. SLU had a quarterfinal or semifinal run during that time. Since then, not much playoff success for any Southland team. Back to the game, our energy was much better today. Eppler and the WRs were outstanding, but they can't do it all. The OL was solid, but we need a running game badly. For whatever reason, we can't seem to establish one. Maybe it's because we pass the ball so much? On the other side of the ball, our defense played hard, but we're still not getting it done there. Not sure what's going on there, but we're just getting smoked every game. If we improve on today's effort, we might win a couple games this year, but that doesn't make me feel all that good because Eppler, Davis and Shorts will be gone next year. We have to start all over after that. I do like that we haven't quit, but the reality is we're 0-6. I'm not even sure what to make of all this, really. Weird season.

Today's game from an effort perspective, you can tell it was there in all phases. The problem continues to be the "BIG" play. How many times on D did you see us get gashed on a long run? Or the read option? After looking today, this goes back to our youth on defense. Stephenson and Bougeois, you can see how their presence is missed severely. I'm not thinking about next year right now, I want these young guys to get better in preparation for next year. This will give us a clue of what to look forward to in years to come. This year, we take our lumps, but from a big perspective.....we have improved greatly from the Midwestern State debacle.

I really don't think we will be starting over at QB and WR next year. I believe we will be pleasantly surprised at the immediate impact that Rivers/Fletcher can have next year. I know that some hate a 2 QB system but, (similar to what Florida does) these two can work together to diversify an offense that needs a run threat along with a passing attack. Our young guys are maturing. My prediction is that there will be some breakout type players next year from our youth at WR. Only time will tell, but the potential is there to be realized.
