Tough test against Midwestern State this week. They are 5-0 against FCS all-time but have played tough. Good athletes, however we should be able to beat them by 14+ if we play well.
Defensively, I liked our aggression on the field. Just need to make sure we wrap up and not allow them to get yards after catch/run.
Offensively we need to run the ball. Without a run game the offense will not work and while I like our QB situation we don't have the talent to win on that alone.
Special Teams need work in every phase. Hope to see some coverage improvement.
Coaching just needs to adjust.
Going to be a tough one next week in Tiger Stadium so we MUST fix those issues this week and head into Death Valley with a little confidence.

Kind of echoing your thoughts I just want to see special teams buttoned up and a better run game. Defense played well in my opinion, giving up a little over 300 yards should win a lot of games but untimely penalties and special teams blunders were the difference.

So I want to know what everyone is thinking now that we are down 26-7 at halftime. Very undisciplined football team!

This is the worst we have looked in years. They are a well disciplined and coached team. We are not and we were not ready.

Down 33-7 to a D2 school at home. No excuses. There needs to be SERIOUS questions asked from all sides about the football program.
Midwestern is good but they arent THAT good.

Season is over, we are not a disciplined team. And again, in our glory days, we had a run game. This team has no running game at all. The question now has to be asked, is Laird the guy? I think after losing to a Division II team, this is a relevant question.

I’m so disappointed I don’t even know what to say. What an embarrassing performance.

Hats off to the Mustangs. They desere to win. As for us, time to clean house, from top-to-bottom.

This was a miserable night for a number of reasons. I’m glad my life’s purpose and happiness does not depend on a football game, but I feel bad for our school. It’s hard to keep spirits high when you're looking at a dreadful season in the making. It’s time to go on to baseball season. They and softball are our only hope for a decent season now.

I’m sick to my stomach. Had a solid turnout, ton of students show up and aside from the heat, a great pregame atmosphere.
Spent 9 hours in a car to watch us get our ass beat by a d2. Unreal.

Hats off to the Mustangs. They deserve to win. As for us, time to clean house, from top-to-bottom. I was so upset, I misspelled "deserve." Lol. It's just a game and we shouldn't let it be much more than a game in the grand scheme of life. That said, if we're going to play the game, we should try to be competitive. It's very understandable to have two losing seasons out of five, let's say. Then, one of those seasons can be a 6-5 or 5-6 type, but the other two seasons should be winning seasons and give the fans a product they can take pride in and have an open affinity for in and about the city, state or even region. We haven't had a winning season since the mid-2000's. We've had two 6-6 seasons and a win over LaTech is 13 years. That's it. We've pretty much been a subpar-to bad program for about 11 of those 13 years. It's old, it's tired and it's run its course. It's time for change. Period. End of discussion. No debate. We got manhandled by a D2 program. Not even a Top 5 or Top 10 D2 program, mind you. A program that is tough and successful and is ranked 17th in D2. Now, they could move up and finish higher. Good luck to them, but that's not the point. The point is that we've scored 7 points in the last six quarters and put up roughly 300 yards of offense in those six quarters. That's not good enough. We're very predictable on offense and have NO running game whatsoever. As I stated earlier, it's time to clean house if this is the best we can put on the field. Again, it's not good enough. I'm sorry. The fact that this conversation likely hasn't happened from the top to those running the program isn't good enough, either. Laird is a smart guy and he knows this isn't good enough. No amount of "coachspeak" and interviews can change that. Time to get real. I want him to succeed very much, but he now owns what is likely the worse loss or one of the worse losses in modern NSU history. If this isn't corrected in a timely fashion (after the LSU game, obviously), it's time to make a drastic change because what we've been doing is NOT working AT ALL.

I haven't commented on this forum in a long time. All I have to say is NSU's football program is on life support and Midwestern State kicked the plug real hard right before they left tonight to go back to Wichita Falls. Someone needs to go push that plug back in or this season is over two games in. I thought we'd hit rock bottom under Peveto with the 0-11 season, but this game and season just might match it if tonight's performance is any indication of the miserable future.

Yesterday was my first NSU game since the 2017 season because I had 15 of my HS students performing with the SoN at halftime. I was absolutely floored at how awful we looked...especially after a decent offensive performance last week. We were out played and out coached in literally every phase of the game. Midwestern State kicked our athletes ALL.OVER.THE.FIELD! I was sitting on the visitor side around the 20 yard line right before halftime with a perfect view of that 1/100 catch. At that moment I knew...not only were we not coming back after that, but that our season was over before it even started.
We're either cursed for firing Stoker, a coach that had a lack of control over his players, BUT, had a winning record...or we're still haunted by what the winless Peveto-Promise did to the program.
I'm not sure we can saddle Laird with this...it's only his 2nd year here. But the question does need to be asked is it that we're totally missing on recruiting FCS level players or is it our coaching STAFF? or a combo of both??
I look at yesterday's result and our complete lack of putting a competitive product on the field and say, this one is on the coaches. Next weekend (why even make the trip???) and what is going to happen at Tiger Stadium...that will be a lack of athletes on our part. There is literally nothing the coaches can do, sans putting rohypnol in the LSU football teams gatorade, to get our guys prepared to be competitive against LSU.
I still say...if nicholls can turn their program around so can we.

One other observation just as a casual observer but our own offense looked like they didn't even want to be on the field during the entire 1st quarter.
