• Little Rock will have a new look this spring with potentially six junior college transfers in the everyday lineup. J.D. Gann led the team in home runs during the fall and should play first base. Chase Coker is a plus runner who could play second, third or center. Nick Perez is a physical, two-way player who should play third base and pitch. Ryan Benavidez and T.J. Alexander are corner outfielders with power. The most eyes are likely on center fielder Marcus Ragan, a 6.3 60 runner who was a 15th round choice in ’17. Those transfers join DH Riley Pittman, the team’s best hitter, catcher Kale Emshalf and shortstop Christian Reyes in the projected lineup.
The coaches are excited about experience and talent on the mound. Chandler Fidel (3-7, 4.83) is a 6-foot-6 southpaw who should be the staff ace. He will attack hitters with pitchability and a four-pitch mix (FB/CB/CH/SL). Cole Townsend (2-1, 3.70), another power southpaw at 90-93 from the left side, is starting option along with RHP McKinley Moore (0-2, 6.10), another 6-foot-6 power arm (93-96 MPH on scout day). Righthander Carter Brown (3-2, 5.94) is the probable midweek starter. Justin Garcia (2-1, 3.02) brings a “Bugs Bunny changeup” to the closer role. JC transfer Donavin Buck is another big strike thrower who sits 89-91 with his fastball, along with sink and a changeup/cutter/slider combination.
