As people have eluded to already on here it's been reported on Facebook and Shreveport Times that NSU has named Def. Coord. Brad Laird as the new head coach.
Brad is a Demon through and through but I also can't help be skeptical (it's my nature so get over it) because we haven't necessarily been known for having top of the SLC defenses in many years.
Hopefully he ends up getting us to being respectable or better again....one would think this thing has to eventually turn around for the better.

While not a splash hire I do think he is a safe hire. He bleeds purple and orange through and though so I am happy about that. He is very knowledgable and comes across really well. While his defenses weren't lights out I do think he was a good coach.
Overall I am happy with the hire and hopefully he can bring the program back.

Time will tell, but my gut feeling is that this will work out better than most on this forum think. Coach Laird has a whole lot in his favor at this point. Rather than list all the reasons, I’ll just say that I believe he will be fiery when he needs to, energetic in the down times, and a steady hand in the stressful moments. He will captain the ship. The least we can do is support his effort and give him time to work with the good things Coach Thomas left behind and improve upon the weak areas.

Personally, I think it is a lazy hire by Gregg but would you expect anything else? I think Laird should have earned it through the interview process among other coaches. Laird may end up doing a good job but the first thing he needs to do is clean house with his staff. And for heaven’s sake, quit going and signing so many JUCOs and actually build a program.

I'm always a skeptic/pessimist but that's due to the past 10 years of Demon football...deep down I honestly, truly, sincerely hoping Laird is "The Man". Good news is I like what I've seen from Holgerson! It always helps a new head coach if you have a decent/good QB that already has experience playing/leading the offense.

Decision made, let the work begin. Many moving parts to replace to get this program competitive again. Positive momentum going into the offseason can get recruits interested in coming that might not have without winning 3 of our last 4. It was a lazy hire by the AD but, if it works i'll stop short of calling him incompetent.

Not much time passed so maybe it was a Done deal. Either way, I at least hope Greg Asked Brad for a plan of action. I like the idea Of a quick hire but not without proper vetting.

To be sure, this was not a quick hire. Brad was hired to be the head coach a year ago. I'm all but positive it was written (or at least assured in some way) when he was brought in last year as Asst. Head Coach. You could smell the gumbo cooking way back then. There is no way a guy picks up his family, leaving his hometown and a great job, to move to a disastrous situation without the assurance that he is the next head coach. Just sayin'. At any rate, I'm really looking forward to seeing the direction he takes and how things move forward.

And for heaven’s sake, quit going and signing so many JUCOs and actually build a program. Welcome to FCS in the south these days. If we want to be competitive, we NEED solid juco talent. It’s the only way we can compete honestly. We’re not North Dakota State where we can recruit the cream of the state cause we’re the only decent program around. I agree that juco shouldn’t be the bulk of our recruiting classes, but transfers and juco signees are how you make it around here.

Not to mention everyone else in the SLC does it to an extent and makes it work...we just can't seem to. With Zach Adkins a few years ago turning into one of the better QB's we've had. Holgerson has that same potential.
