I don't look for this game to be even remotely close. We've gotten worse and worse since the last time we played up in Ruston.
Anyway, this one will be over by halftime...Final LaTech 56 NSU 17
The Spirit of Northwestern is apparently doing a joint performance with the Tech Band. Our halftime show will contain music of Americana. A real Demon Downer, but let's face it, they haven't given us anything to be positive about lately.

If we lose 56-17, it's going to be a long year again. I do not think we'll win this season, at all, but we're not playing LSU or Bama. Now, they will try to run the score up on us, but no matter the final score, they will still be La Tech at the end of the day. That's right, La Tech, a rural Louisiana university, just like us, sitting in the mighty shadow of the flagship in Baton Rouge. No matter what type of delusion soup they serve up in Ruston during the season and how they try to garnish it with C-USA accolades in the Monroe and Shreveport Gannett pitiful newspapers, that is reality. For the record, I'm not a La Tech hater. It takes too much energy to hate something, but I'm not a fan of some of their fans, kind of like another "FBS" self-proclaimed powerhouse in this state that thinks they are more than they are. That said, here's to an injury-free game and good sportsmanship for both teams. La Tech 48 NSU 24. Peace.

"I usually go to 2 - 4 of their games every year. It's pathetic! Glorified high school. They announce crowds of 4,000+ But I have been at games when there were no more than 1,000 people in attendance. The level of play is much inferior to what we see on a weekly basis. Everyone keeps saying, Tech will throttle NSU! Win by many TDs! Yep...we should. But then again, we SHOULD have done that in 2014 too. But didn't...
The X Factor that many of you dismiss, and simply don't understand, is how much this means to NSU. One relic does his annual rant about Tech being in the same conference with NSU and the rest of the losers in the SLC. And, how tragic it is that Tech ruined the GREAT tradition that was the annual State Fair Game. I kid you not. Youngsters around here get indoctrinated to hate Tech (and love LSU) early. And even the players, kids from Texas and other states, who know nothing about the history of "the rivalry" get schooled on "Tech is the enemy." I had one young man, who rented from me, a walk-on, who played at Holy Cross HS, who upon learning I was a Rummel Raider said, "well, at least you're not a Tech guy." When I told him I was indeed a Tech Dawg, he recoiled like I had said I had a contagious disease. And that was pre-2014 when we hadn't played NSU in 20 years.
A few of us are behind enemy lines down here." - Dr. (the man) Kilcoyne...aka huge piece of shit

I remember leading into the 2014 game. The Tech coach was speaking publicly of getting to play lots of players in this "sort of game". Then I heard Coach Thomas talking about preparing for a football game. I hope the Tech coach holds onto that attitude. It would be our best chance at another good night at Mayberry.

Well DawgofNObo, ill try and get some game week talk going. The boards have definitely been more active in the past, but there have been some rough days in Demonland as of late. Which has really killed enthusiasm for the program. As a fanbase, we have a coach in waiting (who is our current DC) we are really excited about, but our current HC is under contract through this season. So we just don't know what the 2017 season is going to look like and its one of those catch 22 where we want change, but also want to win some damn games...We are coming off a miserable last place finish in conference losing to teams we have no business ever losing to and just looked unwatchable at times last year. J.D. Almond has been named the starter, he's looked great at times and has struggled as well, our best runningback was ruled academically ineligible for the season and we seem to be pretty thin there. We hit the JC trail pretty hard and filled some holes and added some depth there where we could, so just a lot of uncertainty as to how much we will improve if at all this year. So until we win a few games and look somewhat decent, I think there will continue to be some apathy. We still draw well and have a good tailgating turn out for home games last season despite our record, but our online presence has always been lacking.

Haughon QB will be good fir y'all! Looks like rain might be out of area Saturday & temps in 80's!!! Will be a fun game & great tailgating. Tech is opening new Pressbox & suites (badly needed BTW) so a lot of excitement. And if fireworks are indeed shot off, hopefully they do it at half time !?! Lolol!

DawgofNoBo, I wouldn't worry too much about the fireworks. I think its a safe bet after the game. The family and I are making the trip up to Ruston and plan on seeing what we have in the first quarter. That should tell the tale rather quickly. I just hope we don't lose players to injury. Our best shot for some wins this year is to keep what we have healthy and hope the JUCO guys and freshman show up here and there. All in all, this will be a long year for us and a fun year for Bulldog fans. Good luck.

Tech had the WORST defense in college football last year. They actually gave up more yards per game than we did. They were awful. We will run the ball effectively on them like every other very average CUSA team did last year. Tech will always be a wannabe program. They are just a stepping stone U for coaches, NO different than us. They should be very thankful they are playing us and not Sam Houston who could probably win the CUSA title.

I'm not sure what to expect from our team after last year. I do know that several players are in the NFL or CFL off the team that beat La Tech three years ago. And I'm being told we're more talented, top-to-bottom, than in 2014. However, Zach Adkins was a darn good QB and I'm not sure any of our QB's can manage the game the way he did. I hope J.D. surprises us all because everyone is pulling for him to succeed. I do know that we got in some JUCO talent, a couple in-particular, that could be difference makers day one. We have plenty of good WR's, DL is good, big and fast, LB's have another year under their belt, DB's should be stronger and TE should be stout. Biggest question marks will be QB, of course, RB depth and OL. I seriously doubt we'll threaten La Tech with defeat this year, but we could hang for awhile if our players get settled in quickly. I'm not even worried about this game, though. I just want to see vast improvement in Week 2 and beyond. And, I agree, Sam Houston and UCA would give La Tech and most CUSA teams all they wanted and more. Heck, they could beat a lot of them. However, no one in the Southland is beating WKU. They are legit ... like almost Top 25 legit.

If we get good QB play and throw the ball effectively it might be interesting. Brad (Laird) coaches a lot like Mike Lucas and will be very aggressive defensively. Lucas called a great game against them 3 yrs ago. I don't really know what to expect. I did see our scrimmage Saturday a week ago and we are definitely better. I am cautiously optimistic.
