Been awfully quiet around here... Demons, bolstered by the return of Zeek Woodley, are making a late run at the SLC Tournament. They have won 3 out of 4, including snapping several streaks at Stephen F Austin last night. SFA's 45-game conference home win streak is toast. Demons snap a 9-gm losing streak to the Jacks, as well as win at Johnson Coliseum for the first time since 2011. The really frustrating part, to me, is that had the Demons had Zeek healthy for the duration of SLC play, there is no doubt they would have been in the thick of things for the Southland championship this year. As it was, the team without Zeek had 6 of their 11 losses in conference come down to the last minute or OT. So EVERYONE needs to turn out tomorrow for NSU vs UCA. Zeek is 2 points from owning the career scoring record at NSU. It's going to be a super high scoring game with lots of excitement, and if the Demons win and Nicholls loses to UNO and Abilene beats Houston Baptist, NSU will be in the SLC Tourney as the 8 seed. And for my money, they will be the team no one wants to face in Katy.

Always good to hear from you, Patrick. Your talent is outstanding and we appreciate your acumen when it comes to calling games. Especially those of us who live away. Now, that said, you and the brass may not want to hear this, but the reason there has been little or no activity on this board is because we've had nothing to talk about in the grand scheme of things. Sorry. Our football team is the worse its been in awhile and our basketball team lost two of the best players we've ever had over the past two seasons AND has been at or toward the bottom of the league because of it. This is not exciting! For the record, I am so happy we finally bested SFA after a too-long losing streak to them, but you can't get a fan board excited by saying "if we beat UCA AND Nicholls loses to UNO AND Abilene beats Houston Baptist (likely not going to happen, I mean ... I hope it does, but ... ), we'll be the 8th seed in the tourney." I agree with you that we'd be the team no one wants to play because with Zeek back we've been on a tear (we just scored 57 points in one-half ... awesome), but we're relying on other teams to win or lose to get us there. Again, that's not exciting. The aforementioned and football's second nosedive during an unbelievable near-decade non-winning drought is why this board is DEAD and will likely remain dead until the athletic department decides to wake us up. So sorry to say these things and I send much love and peace, but this is the truth. The saddest part of it all, we'll likely never have another guard tandem like West and Woodley and neither player has ever been to the NCAA tourney. Well, Jalan was a Redshirt Freshman when we last made it, I think, but they never had a chance to make an impact together playing in a tournament with that level of talent. The fans are itching for a reason to chatter, but the coaches and players must provide that reason. Today is a start, but hardly enough to rattle everyone out of their stupor. Go get the eighth seed and that will help. Go compete hard in the tourney and/or win it and that will really help. Get the football team to a winning record and a playoff berth and that will help even more. Get the baseball team back to old form, or something close to it, and that will also help. Softball, soccer, ladies basketball, track, tennis and volleyball have done their jobs over the past few years, respectively, but football, basketball and baseball are the cash cows and the major attendance draws and stir the most board activity at any university.

I just went back and looked at the Southland Tournament scenarios and with Nicholls and UCA losing today and UIW and Abilene both ineligible for post-season, we should be the 8th seed no matter who wins out of HBU and Abilene. Even though our conference record is equal to Nicholls, we beat them 2x this season. The question is, which tiebreaker separates us from UCA? If it's overall record, we're in. That would put the seeds like this ... 1) UNO 2) TAMU-CC 3)HBU or SFA 4) HBU or SFA 5) SHSU 6) Lamar 7) SLU 8) NSU. That would mean we would play SHSU and Lamar would play SLU. The winner of our game would get HBU or SFA and the winner of Lamar and SLU would get HBU or SFA. Top two seeds get byes it seems.

I just read where we don't get in and Nicholls does? What kind of bullsh*t is that? We beat them twice this year?

There was a 5 way tie for the 8 seed in the tourney. Apparently needed ACU to beat HBU sat night to get into the tournament. And I think UCA got the spot, not Nicholls.

I saw that after I posted about Nicholls. I want to say an article on our athletic website mentioned Nicholls going. UCA did beat us once, so I can somewhat understand that "formula," but would have struggled seeing a team we beat twice get the nod. Even so, this shouldn't be the case, but it is. Just bad luck, I guess. With West and Woodley, we would have been way up the ladder this season. If's and but's, though.

Bad luck is the only kind of luck we seem to have the past few years...the "sports Gods" are surely not smiling on the Demons the past couple seasons.

Beat first and second place teams once he returned from injury. Too little too late. Really stinks for NSU.

With West and Woodley I believe we would've won the SLC...but we just don't seem to be getting any breaks, in any sport. We had success for years in other sports...now we're on the other side of things.
