Support for football?? Get out of town before the next coach leaves!! Greg Burke fired a 7-4 coach and then Peveto takes the same team 0-11. At least Thomas took Peve's team and they went 5-6. He beat Louisiana Tech and brought the Chief home twice. Burke spent a million dollars on a softball stadium that brought about 5-10 more people over the years. That's a poor investment. Heard Burke told Thomas he needed him to pay off one of Peveto's loans that was nearly a quarter of a million dollars. He is about to pay it off from what my source is telling me. Has anyone been at one of their fundraisers? It's the same people at all of the events. I was standing next to Senator Long at a football auction when it looked like Burke raised his hand to bid. He said, "Nooooo... I'm out of this one." Everyone laughed to think he might buy something to help his football team. It made me think, maybe no one wants football to be successful because their actions don't reflect that. It sick that my program has fallen so far, we haven't made any upgrades to the stadium other than a paint job and turf. Imagine the changes Thomas could have made in that facility with that money? Probably would have had the video board 3 years ago. He might have been able to keep the quality coaches they had or he might have left for a better school/situation already. As for coaches, not sure Daye was worth it, but paying a D1 coordinator $55K a year when position coaches at other schools in the conference make more. We are getting what we pay for. I have watched Thomas closely as I was big Stoker fan and Scott said, "he can get it done." Stoke got it done, but makes me think how broken was/is it if Thomas can't? It's probably not Thomas' fault and while Miss Haley is sharing her thoughts behind closed doors on Greg and a new Head Coach (Laird), Maggio ought to look at making more changes than just a head coach. I'd help them all move out of town. If you're going to go on some rants, let's get a few things straight. Stoker's last season he went 7-5, not 7-4. And that was also aided by scheduling two division 2 opponent and a Swac team that season. The previous 3 seasons Stoker went. 5-5, 4-7, 4-7. in 2005, 06, 07 respectively before being let go a the conclusion of the 2008 season.

Patrick, we have new purple seats to watch the same losing football teams. I can't wait to watch the losing football team on the fantastic new video board either. But I have seen the weightroom, I've seen the cobwebs in the building, I've seen the carpet stains that have been there for years, I've seen the rails in the fieldhouse that have screws falling out, I've seen the missing rails too, I've seen the ceiling tiles that are molding through from leaks in the roof, I've seen trash in the corner of the Stroud Room on gamedays. I think sometimes we are in one place so long and we've seen it so many times that we become accustom to our environments. That's okay if it's your house and no one has to see your bedroom, but it's not okay if you are actively trying to invite people in. I've been up to the offices and the items on the wall look great until you start looking at the fire extinguisher filled with trash that I watch a young man throw his gum wrapper in. Sure there are some things that are getting better, but it's been neglected for so long. We have missed out on adding local football players that have gone on to other schools in Louisiana. There was a stud North Desoto that signed with Southeastern. Many felt he was Arkansas material. The Hildebrand kid (QB from UCA) is from Shreveport (his father is an alumni of NSU) he said he loved the staff, but the facilities weren't even close to UCA's (indoor on campus). There was a safety that played at McNeese that killed us that is from Mansfield, another one from Leesville just signed with them again. The coach at Many does a great job (State Champs!!) and is a NSU alum, he sent a kid to NE (ULM) and wouldn't let him visit NSU. NE has never been an issue for us in recruiting. We lost another one to NE that we were told was committed and he's starting against Alabama as a true freshman. I'm sorry, but I never felt that NE was much better than us when it came to facilities or towns. Their big contributor is the CEO of CenturyLink whom is a former Demon. Why? I don't know, but someone should ask Greg and Maggio. We also might want to ask them why Buddy Lott doesn't do more for us or with us. I'm purple inside and out, but my eyes are open.
Cajundaddy, he was 7-5 and would have won the conference had they won their last game that season. He wouldn't have gone 0-11 that next season. He and Jay both beat SFA, something Peveto never did. Jay beat LaTech at their place when NO ONE gave us a chance. It's safe to say that had Jay beat SFA in a game that we should have won, I was there, we should have won, Jay might be at Tulane or SoMiss as their HC and we might have hired Cooley back after his success at Delta St. Doesn't matter because he hired Daye and the defense has gone south quickly where our best shot to stop anyone is the clock run out.
If you want to be successful it all starts with recruiting. We lose area kids that could help to institutions that have a brighter vision of the future. The kids we do have can't grow in the dated weightroom we have. And while I've seen strength coaches complain about Jay affecting their regimens on this board, I have noticed that they frequently leave for jobs at Ole Miss, LSU, and K-State and probably not without Coach Jay's recommendation either. The training room is dated, but it's the trainer that makes the room. I've heard from a few in the community that he is getting better. Again another employee that grew up there and never left and stayed long enough they just kept moving him up. We can't get the best recruits (we haven't had a decent transfer in a DECADE!!!) We can train them or help them grow up, we can't fix them and then when it gets to the X and O's we want to know why it doesn't work.
I respect your opinions and the board is here for us to discuss these things. I just find it hard to sell a program to top athletes that aren't looking for a rustic old fashioned feel. Heck we don't even have an elevator. Sorry to be the demon downer. Fork'em Demons!

I think the main thing missing from football (and in many ways all sports) is excitement. Years past we would have a bit of excitement that we could challenge for the SLC title and have a legit chance to make the playoffs. Just seems like that has been missing.
I hope we can turn it around this year..Lair is a tremendous hire though so that gives a little hope.
The Stadium looks quite nice right now so I will give credit for the athletic department on that end.
