Tough way to lose but impressive game played by the Demons considering SFA has the nation's longest home winning streak.

That was tough to watch....
I hope we get another shot at them in the tourney.

I know SFA would be the best thing "for the conference" if they go dancing but after how that game unfolded and we "threw that one away", literally, I really hope their dreams get smashed to bits by us...again!

I would love the chance to ruin their season again. Almost a repeat of last year.

I think they would represent the conference very well and possibly even advance to the field of 32 with the right matchup. Still I'd love to see us make a run in Katy, hopefully we can win out and get that 4 spot so we can bypass the first round.

If they're top 25 then we're top 30 lol

If they're top 25 then we're top 30 lol First of all, let me say congrats to your guys on a well-played game. For some reason, the Demons always give us match-up problems and create havoc when playing SFA. I saw that you guys had a new board so I thought I would stop by and take a look. With that said, I don't agree with the "...if they are top 25, then we're top 30" comment. Certainly, if you take one came and isolate it, then you make a strong argument. However, we all know that you have to look at the entire body of work this season to give a fair assessment. When you do that, the Demons don't come anywhere close to SFA. NSU lost twice to a Sam Houston team that SFA handled fairly easily -- twice. SFA beat NSU by 16 at Prather earlier this year. You also lost to TAMUCC who SFA beat by 10 on the road. Then, of course, there is the NSU loss to Houston Baptist. We're still not sure what happened to you guys there because SFA made them look like a DIII school for special kids. The score was 77-50, but if you were there (I was) you would have seen that SFA took their foot off the gas when they were up 40-13 in the first half. As a matter of fact, if you want to look at just one game, then I could look at that one and determine that NSU belongs at the bottom of the conference. Of course, I know better than that. I'm just trying to make a point. To be clear, I'm not sure we are a legit Top 25 team. It's been cool to get votes and we would certainly tout it if we break into the Top 25, but I don't think you can say that SFA is better than Oklahoma or Gonzaga without seeing them play a team of that caliber. Also, I want to make sure you guys know that I am not bashing the Demons. You guys have a good team and I hope we don't have to play you guys again in the tournament. NSU has the ability to beat just about anyone, but their lack of consistency kills them. They can also lose to just about anyone (see HBU). PineLogger04, Blogger/Writer/Fan for LumberjackFans.com

First off , welcome to our board.
I have no problem saying that SFA is a top 30 team. On that same note, I have no problem saying that NSU should be a top 30 team. Difference between the two is that SFA has played at a high level all year while NSU has struggled and played very badly at times.
I also think SFA has the ability to advance in March should they make it. Right now Sam and NSU are the next best teams.
Again, hats off to SFA this year, good to see our conference get some respect.

Thanks for the welcome. I think SFA's ability to get past the first round of the NCAAs (should they win the SLC tourney), all depends on their match-up. I think they could be dangerous for some big program teams that they match up well against. However, with others it could be long and painful.
I keep thinking about when you guys upset Iowa in the first round. I would love for us to be able to that. But like you said, we have to get past you guys in the SLC tourney first!

This is where the neutral site tournament works against you guys. If it were in nacogdoches, I would say start making tourney plans. Even as a team that has no shot at hosting this year, I say we should move it back on campus. The best team should have a paved road for a tourney birth and represent the conference.

Still have a hard time convincing me that SFA is a Top 25 team...kind of a moot point after yesterday's rankings were released.

Personally, I like the neutral tournament site in a major market. I might be a little biased since I live in the Houston area, but I would hate to have to drive all the way to Conway, Arkansas to watch the tournament if they were to ever host it. Not only is the drive long.... but it's Conway. Several SLC towns are like that. Who would travel to watch a tournament and spend time in Nacogdoches, or Natchitoches, or Hammond, or Thibodoux (or however you spell it), or worst of all... Beaumont. I think the idea behind having it in Katy (Houston) is that it gives a decent travel destination that is central to most SLC towns. With that said, I wish the attendance was better in Katy. If I lived in Nac, I would probably agree with you.

Would you rather have the atmosphere you had saturday night against us, or the half empty Merrill Center on national television? I just want the television exposure to portray a better overall atmosphere.

I am a huge proponent of home sites for the conference tournament, especially in a league the size of the SLC. Two major reasons:
1 - Guaranteed attendance. You know you will have a decent to good to very good home crowd for a team hosting a conference tournament game, especially the tournament championship game. Remember how amazing the atmosphere in Prather was for the 05 and 06 title games? I would rather have 3,000 screaming fans going bonkers in a 3,000-seat arena than 3,000 fans in a 7,000-seat arena. It just makes sense.
2 - Protection of the higher seeds. Obviously, the home court means a much better shot at the higher seeds making it through, which is ultimately better for the league. I know travel can be an issue but that only adds to the advantage for the higher seeds. If you want that advantage, earn it through the regular season. It also makes the regular season more valuable, giving extra meaning to some of the regular season games down the stretch.
Just my two cents
