Hopefully this is the last time we have to play these guys. Briles is gone, so I don't know if we'll see the timeouts called with a minute left in the half up 42-3. They brought in Jim Grobe who is kinda old school so I'm not sure if they'll hang 70 on us or how long he will keep his foot on the gas. They do such a great job of lining up in a way that stretches the defense out, and then they play the numbers game. 5 in the box=run, 6=read option 7=theyre going deep. Impossible to stop especially with the speed they have at receiver. Getting a few first downs on offense and limiting their possessions will be critical, 3 and outs just can't happen. Looking forward to seeing what this team looks like and hopefully we show some signs of competitiveness and a few big plays and some stops on defense to keep it respectable...I'd be happy with a 56-21 loss or something in that area, but we'll see. Hope to see some Demons there to support, shortest drive for me all season.

That's awesome! I love seeing the Spirit of Northwestern at away games!

Last year Lamar played them about as well as you can play them as an FCS school and lost 66-31. There's only a handful of teams in power 5 conferences that could hold them to under 40 points.

This is the breadwinner game...bringing home the bacon...etc., etc., etc. To quote the pseudo-Philosopher Steve Miller, "Go on, take the money and run!"

Haha well we need to start getting money from schools that don't have the most powerful offense in the nation!

I'm hoping for a better showing the last time we were there. Would like to see us be competitive in the first half. Hoping with everything going on at Baylor we'll catch them not at the top of their game.
Glad Art Briles isn't there anymore, always thought he was a classless piece of crap. Hoping the new coach isn't calling timeouts up 42-3 to try and run it up and/or going for it on 4th down up 63-6.

Brooks Haack named starter BEFORE the first game...wow. What a concept. Glad the coaching staff learned from last years debacle. Stick with him and let Joel do some wildcat and he can take the reigns next year.

You know, I don't expect us to beat a team like Baylor. I don't expect us to even keep it close, but we have looked as bad as I have ever seen us look. Individual players are looking decent, but as a team, this is the worse I have EVER seen us look. Sure, Baylor is a dynamic opponent and probably better than most of the country thought they would be after all their off-season issues, but we've done nothing. Literally. Lamar scored 30-something points on them last year and we beat Lamar. I know it's the first game, but this game "could" take any wind we had in our sails out for awhile. Hopefully we will have a short memory because if we don't beat UIW next Thursday, it's going to be a repeat of last year's season. And I can't speak for any of you, but I'm sick of this. What happened to the old NSU? The team that would give up 48 points to an FBS team ... in a game, not a half ... and would also score a few, too ... or the team that would upset FBS teams like TCU, Sou Miss, La Tech, ULM, ULL and Boise ... and give teams like highly-ranked Missouri a run for their money?

Much better second-half on our part. Of course, Baylor played backups and vanilla offense, but I still think we improved a bit. Lots of work to do, though. Hopefully we can handle our business next Thursday at home and get better each week. We shall see.

Would have liked to show more of a pulse against Baylor in the first half but I do like the fight we showed in the second. I hate opening the season against them as it takes so much wind and excitement out of the season right off of the back.
Need to make a BIG statement next week.
I like Baylor's new coach. Definitely way more classier than Briles.
Really hard to tell anything from this game.

I've pondered the game a day-and-a-half as I've watched a handful of other games. I think we're going to be fine. I think Baylor is better than most people think they would be with all their losses and I think we'll get better as the season goes forward. I liked the play from our defensive line and linebackers. DBs will be fine, but covering Baylor's WRs/TEs/RBs is a tall order. RBs will be fine, too. I'm most concerned with OL and QB/WR play. Hopefully that will improve a lot in game two. Next Thursday's game is crucial, though. UIW lost to Texas A&M -- Kingsville this weekend. We really, really need to come out and be dominant for four quarters. We owed them anyway. UCA and SLU will be tough challenges on the road, for sure, but we'll best Kentucky Wesleyan easily, I think. So, worst-case scenario is we're 2-3 in the first five games. Hopefully, 3-2, but we'll see.

Ive had a few days to think about the game as well....Defensively I think we'll be fine, not sure why Isaac Warren didn't play but hopefully we can get him back and get some depth at corner because that is one area we look really thin and frankly really undersized. Poullard also seemed to be hurt early and left without returning. These kids played a ton of snaps and I believe will be able to hold their own against FCS competition. Baylor is a talented team and I'm glad we got our paycheck game done with and out of the way. I was thoroughly disappointed with the offense, there is no excuse to have 74 yards of total offense unless we were playing Alabama or the 85 bears, we were so predictable and could barely manage positive plays until the second half when Grobe emptied the bench. I couldn't even get an idea of how good Brooks Haack is because we either ran a screen or he had zero time to throw. All these other FCS teams are moving the ball and scoring on FBS teams so I was just extremely discouraged by how terrible we looked on that side of the ball. Really hoping that my mind is changed on that in a few days.

78 Yards of offense. Offensive Line looked terrible. Lamar put up 31 points and 300 yards of offense on them last year. Whats our excuse? This was quite embarrassing to watch with a Division 1 Transfer QB. Produce some offense dude!! Defense actually made some stops. I was proud but Baylor still torched em for about 500 yds. UIW comes to town in 2 days. We'll see what kind of team we really are.

I've talked about this very thing with my F-n-Law a few times. IMO, the biggest factor is that back in our good stretch between 1997 - 2003 look at the recruiting landscape. Fast forward 10 years and look, just in our immediate area, at how many teams have joined the recruiting landscape, and not just joined but the teams we used to recruit against that are now FBS. UTSA - added football AND at the FBS level. Lamar - reinstated football UCA - moved to DI from DII UIW - added football ACU - moved from DI from DII Houston Baptist - added football Texas State - moved from FCS to FBS SLU - reinstated football Troy State - moved from FCS to FBS I know Troy is slightly out of our immediate recruiting area and possibly Abilene Christian, too...but they're in our competition's recruiting area which in turn effects us. That's my take. I could also include how the internet has also made it easier to get those "diamond in the rough" recruits that were missed by larger schools.
