Clearly the class of the conference. Totally decimated West Virginia today to advance in the tourney. Hats off to them, great showing for SFA.
As much as I hate to say it, we aren't anywhere near them as a program right now.
Hope they make a deep run. Class program over there.

Absolutely awesome performance by the Jacks tonight! Walkup is a BOSS!!! I am VERY happy for SFA because they totally deserve this attention. They play DEFENSE! Good luck to them moving forward!!!

I'm definitely pulling for them the rest of the wa. Hope our team watched them tonight. Our goal should be to catch back up with SFA.

Had Jalan not gotten hurt, we would have been much more competitive with them, but let's face it, this particular SFA team has a chance to be the best team to ever come out of the Southland conference. We'll see what they do in the next game, but they have that chance. I think LaTech only made the Sweet Sixteen with Karl Malone and that's probably the best performance ever in the Southland. Our team got pretty darn close in 2006 as did the SFA team a couple years ago. I'm sure Coach Mike and the team watched the game and pulled for SFA. Coach Mike is a class act. There's no doubt that we were dealt a tough hand this season and will be much, much better next year, but we have to play defense if we EVER want to catch up with SFA. That performance tonight was a sheer dismantling of a Top 15 basketball team with some pretty darn good heritage. West Virginia kept thinking SFA's "luck" would change, but when they realized it wasn't luck and it was pure skill, it was way too late for them. And Walkup's post up on the Mountaineer that was trying to body and hand check him to intimidate him at the end was absolutely awesome. He just buried the three in his face. For me, this is much more about David and Goliath than anything else. The whole Southland region should be cheering for the Jacks because it helps the Southland. No telling where the league "could" end up if success like the past ten years continues.

Hats off to SFA...as much as I want to hate them and be jealous it just make me angry, bitter and depressed because our program will NEVER be at that level. SFA won the lottery when they landed Underwood and won the lottery again by him staying for 3 years. I have hard time believing that the players they recruit are THAT much better than ours but something they're doing over there is light years ahead of what the rest of the SLC is doing...especially NSU. I think Walkup is also one of those players that can change a program with his work ethic...a rising tide raises all ships. Also, most of those guys starting are players that Danny Kaspar brought in...what happens when that squad is chock full of Brad Underwood's kids?! We might as well just forfeit the game. Just at a loss at how low we've fallen in just 3 short years...during that same time we've had one of the worst if not THE worst defensive basketball team in college basketball.

Also, I loved The Shot from 2006 as much as anyone...I took off work so I could watch the game, but we're starting to look like Uncle Rico from Napoleon Dynamite reminiscing about the past every time we celebrate our "15 minutes of fame".

I have no problem with their success and our lack of it this year. They worked harder than we did to build a better team and are reaping the rewards. No jealousy here. I love the lesson of reaping greatness when you work hard. We can enjoy tournament success again someday, but not without deciding to play defense. Those days are over.

That's what I was saying...no jealousy here either. It just makes me reflect on the status of our program these days. You're a lot more positive about the future than I am...I don't see us reaching the NCAA tourney again for many years, much less getting an upset win in my lifetime. Let's face it...it took us 86 years to make our first trip in 1999!
SFA went from cellar dweller, to decent, to dominant, to having TWO NCAA wins in 3 years in less than 10 years. That's coaching...not star recruits.

I think SFA wins today and advances to the Sweet 16...making the chances we ever do anything in men's basketball ever again even less likely.

SFA just handed Notre Dame a gift. Had them on the ropes and was about to knock them out cold and let them off the hook. Too bad. Good run, Lumberjacks. You put up the best performance of a Southland team since LaTech and Karl Malone. NSU's effort in 2006 would be third. I'm basing this off scores alone. SFA would also be fourth with their win over VCU and then their loss to UCLA a couple years ago. I doff my cap to you, SFA!!! Very nice season and based on your roster, you're going to be a favorite in the Southland for awhile. There's work to be done NSU basketball ... if you want back in the dance. You can do it, though.

Feel bad for SFA. I felt the officials gifted Notre Dame towards the end on those last two calls.
On the plus side SFA has clearly set the standard and it is one we should be chasing and emulating.

Keep in mind how fast they've risen and we've fallen since our last tournament appearance in 2012-2013...and also how bad we've become defensively during that same time.

I know. Hard to believe that we were a second away from beating them a few years ago and now we aren't even close to them.

I know. Hard to believe that we were a second away from beating them a few years ago and now we aren't even close to them. Well...Brad Underwood is heading to Okie St. Of course, Underwood or not...we ain't winning shit again until McConathy and Co. figure out how to coach defense. We can't wear teams down like we used to because EVERYONE is subbing in multiple bench players these days.
