What FBS schools do we play in 2016? I think Baylor is one not sure about the other. Is there also any chance NWST moves up into the FBS? I think we might could compete later on in the Sun Belt.

Word is we are getting a home non-conference game and not playing another FBS school. We are only scheduled to have 4 conference home games so the athletic dept is trying to get a 5th. Probably a d2 or swac opponent. I agree on the FBS jump, it may not be feasible right now but with the way things are going I believe it may be a move we have to make for survival in the near future.

As to the first question, Baylor and someone (big money man, I am told) got us out of a second FBS game by laying down the greenbacks, and buying out the escape clause. I hope we get to play someone out of the SoCon or OVC. But, at this point beggars can't really be big choosers.
As to the second remark about FBS, It would be a crazy mistake and nearly a financial impossibility in the state of higher education in LA. Plus, we are trying to get money to build a new basketball arena. Unless someone in the top tier at Apple, IBM, Microsoft, Chevron, Shell, or the like is a grad and is willing to pay for the trip, don't get on the bus! Why turn into another ULM or LaTech when we could be really consistently competitive in FCS on a national level, and keep the integrity of the school intact? They can keep their bowl games, and we'll keep playing for the Division I Football National Championship.
Rant finished.
Seat16, over and out!

We have not been competitive in the last 12 years or so. Only one winning season in the last 10 is not competitive, more like irrelevant in the FCS. Definitely not like the old days. Sure do not need to go up and get further in debt. Tech for the most part holding their own with winning records for the last several years but ULM is in a death spiral it sounds like.

Like I said it may have to be done as a matter of survival. Football will have to play some major catchup obviously, but its not out of the question. Beating Tech last year shows that its not insane to think we can compete in the sun belt with the right staff. Money games are 2x as much for FBS teams as opposed to FCS teams so that means playing the Baylors and the LSU type games will be closer to a million dollar payout. Not to mention the scholarship boost you have in FBS that allows you to field more players and all of them on a full ride. Also consider the enormous crowds that we would have at Turpin with ULM and ULL coming to town. We gave tech their biggest crowd in like 15 years last year and the ULL game was a packed house. Bringing back those rivalries will be a huge boost in attendance compared to playing Incarnate word and abilene christian. The power 5 will eventually stop scheduling FCS teams as the Big10 has already stated it will do, and I think the proactive teams will be in better shape. All the other sports would be fine, and like I said the athletic budget would increase with two or three money games a season which would mean being able to pay a HC double or triple what we can afford now. I love being in the FCS. I want to someday attend a home playoff game and to continue competing at the level we are now, but I don't want for us to have to fade into division 2 if this thing is going in the direction I think its headed. I can promise you this is being discussed as an option within the university, maybe not seriously right now but I'm glad they're laying out all the options.

Add Nick Pierotti, LB, 6'3.5"-235lbs, City College (JUCO), San Fransisco, Calif. to the list. He allegedly runs a 4.7/40. Looks pretty good on HUDL. We're loading up on JUCO players. This could be great or bust. We shall see.

Per Navarro JUCO Press Release ... add Tremaine Whitley, DE, 6'5"-260lbs, Navarro Junior College, to the list. It came to down to us and Idaho and he chose to stay close to home. Sounds like a backup for Jamarcus Marshall in 2016 and a starter for 2017. Big young'un!

I love the size at least, if we have the 3rd worst defense in FCS again next season, it won't be because lack of size.

Haack will be the starter. Blumenthal will definitely be used to run the ball ... a lot. I guess Almond and Skinner will be Haack's backups. Sears will redshirt and Hazlewood will likely graduate in May.
Haack -- Sr. Blumenthal -- Jr. Almond -- Jr. Skinner -- RsFr Sears -- FrHs

Four year starter at Katy High School is pretty impressive.

Haack started against us in that embarrassing rout. Strong kid with a big arm.

We're getting bigger and better on paper. Let's see if it translates into wins, however.
