We have a commit from IMG Academy? Wow. Ill post his hudl link, rated by rivals as a two star and I think he went to Neville for his first couple years of high school before going to IMG. Some CUSA and AAC have also been after him so I hope he sticks but as of now he is a hard verbal commit.

And need them to have good size and be impact players right away. By the looks of these kids highlight tapes I'm thinking these two guys can do that, but as the old saying goes everyone looks good on their own highlight reel, we've been duped before.

I trust Jay! I know I got aggravated with him earlier this season, but that was my folly. Jay took Nicholls State to the playoffs and played the national runner-up within a FG at their place. And that national runner-up (Furman) lost to Montana 13-6 in the NC game. Jay and company can get it done and I believe they will! Jay is just like Sam Goodwin ... he can find the guy no one else wants and turn him into a player that pro scouts want to meet. In saying that, I look forward to the upcoming recruiting class.

I'd love to share your optimism but this season is the last I go into with any level of championship contending expectations. And I guess a season 10 years ago where Jay went 6-4 won conference that only had 7 teams and got bounced in the first round just doesn't instill in me a ton of hope, but then again i've been a glass half empty type of person lately. As a head coach he's only had one championship season in nine at the helm. He's our guy and I want this thing to be turned around but I'm certainly not going to say that I'm really confident in this program reaching a championship level. Just being honest.
And Furman was not the runner up that year in the championship, that was 2001.

My bad. Furman lost to App St. in the semi-finals and App St. went on to win the NC in the next game. My only point is that Jay has done it before at a place with less money. I hope he can get it done in Natchitoches. We shall see.

A winning CULTURE has to be established at every successful program or it won't matter who is recruited and signed. An AD must have a budget that includes improvements for facilities, equipment, salaries, etc... They must have good relations with the coaching staffs, players, administrators, and the community. Not sure how Burke is doing on everything, but there have been improvements in the field house, parking lots, and stadium. It also appears that he supports the teams. Coaches have to be able to teach their players schemes and techniques that will make them dominant on the field. They have to be able to put game plans together that defeat their opponents. They have to put the right players in the correct situations and those players have to be coached on what to do when they are there. They need to have the right bonds and relationships with the players. They must have skills that rally the community for support. They must want to WIN. I think NSU has a good staff, but I'm not sure they are as organized as they need to be. They seem to be confused at crucial times. Players have to be motivated to work their butts off and improve. They must be willing to commit to the team and sacrifice for the team. They must be focused in the film room, on the field, and in the classroom. They have to take care of themselves and understand how their decisions effect the team, school, and community. They can't stay out all Thursday night and Friday morning partying and drinking and win on Saturday. They can't do it after games and throughout the week and expect their bodies and minds to recover and perform at a high level. Yes they are kids, but they are athletes and they need to behave as such. Maybe stricter rules should be established. The off season program simply must make the players bigger, stronger, faster, and more athletic. Develop the physical tools to force your will on the other teams. I know the players are working hard and getting better while they are on campus. They need to continue it during the summer when they are on their own. The community has to support the team in every way and at the same time demand accountability. It's much easier to support a winner.

Addendum: NSU football has many of the pieces in place to be a playoff football team. Quality players, coaches, academic staff, facilities, etc... They just need to step up and do the little extras that pay huge dividends on and off the field. Assemble the many small things to make something great.

Add in this JUCO LB to our recruiting class -- Chrishard Buhl -- Miami, OK -- NE OK A&M JUCO. He has signed a LOI.

Add Austin Balthazor -- SS -- 5'11"-185lbs -- East Mississippi JUCO -- to the list. He made All-State at Seminary HS in Collins, Miss. I'm guessing he'll back up Darius Poullard next season and start the following season.

I was critical of the coaching staff earlier this year but they appear to have a really solid class coming in next year. That combined with a pretty solid end of the season has me optimistic about next year.
Hope we can finally turn the corner.

The juco guys need to be immediate starters and at the least solid player makers right away if there is any hope of contending for the conference. Its almost a waste if not, thats how SLU and Sam are dominating. The transfers they bring in make a difference in their first season and they can built around that method and seem to have the formula of HS recruits and FBS/Juco transfers all worked out...
I refuse to get excited whatsoever about incoming recruits, not since the "#1 ranked in FCS" recruiting class peveto had that panned out to a 4-7 season. These kids look great on their tapes, but they always do…
