I am so sorry that this team has been beaten down by the money games. The coaches are coaching as hard as they can. Go out to practice. The players can only learn so fast. It takes time to build a team and a staff. It also takes a lot of money. At present the group needs some support. You could not hire a better man than Jay Thomas. Good coach and good man, along with a good recruiter. It just takes time.

I think Jay is a great coach and I hope he stays until he retires. We're all just miffed at the UCA performance. That's all. Teams are supposed to get better as the season goes forward. We digressed exponentially in that game, as a whole. I am excited about the future, but the 2015 hump to climb over might be terribly aggravating. We'll see how the rest of the year goes. Somehow, I think we'll hit our stride at "some" point and that will carry over until next year. Why? We're playing a lot of young guys. Look at the player participation. Tons of young'un's hitting the field. In fact, many of the older players have been benched in favor of them. It happens.

No good players? Is that why about five or six will get looks from the NFL this year? Eagan, Moore and Murphy could stick. We have plenty of talent to win. It's something else. Coaching? Almost the same coaching staff as last year. Leadership? We lost a lot of talent from last year's team. I'd say we're suffering a combination of ill-timed issues. The only game we haven't done well is UCA. We played hard against SLU and were in it until the end. We could have done better against ULL, but not against Miss State. In summation, something is wrong, but I am not sure it's on any one side or area. Just a multitude of symptoms with no identified sickness. The only game game we haven't done well was against UCA?…. are you serious? Im struggling to figure that statement out…Giving up 438 rushing yards to SLU is doing well? ULL going for an easy 547 and over 10 yards per play is good to you? or Miss State setting their all time record of offensive yards in the history of the program is doing well? No part of that is anywhere in the realm of acceptable to me as a fan. Im sorry man, not trying to pick a fight, but you're trying to sugarcoat how bad this team is by saying we have a couple really good players and "one bad game" just doesn't fly.

I agree. We've had 4 bad games regardless of the opponent.

First of all, I'm sorry if I misspoke. Secondly, you can't pick a fight with me. I'm not that shallow to go tit for tat. Maybe a decade ago, but not now. Too busy and too grown up for that kind of bs. What I meant was, the only game we sh*t the bed TOTALLY was against UCA. We were "in" the SLU game until the end and we were never going to beat ULL and Miss State. That's what I was trying to say. In other words, an ugly 1-3 is all we'd ever been out of that stretch anyway, most likely. 2-2 with last year's team? Maybe? It's not the end of the world. Sure, it's ugly and needs to be fixed, but these are first-world problems. We'll live. Maybe I'm just over it all. I'd like to see us win tomorrow and try to salvage a modicum of what's left of the season. If not, I'm not losing any sleep. I hope Jay is our coach for as long he wants. If he isn't, well, it's not like he hasn't been given a chance. I can guarantee you that our current President is on top of this situation and will see it rectified sooner than later.

I spoke to someone in the coaching industry tonight. They know Jay and Daye well. Their advice to me -- "Stick with them and be patient. They are both good coaches and will figure this out. People forget that Jay not only took Nicholls to the playoffs and played the national runner that year off their feet -- Furman -- but he also took Nicholls to Indiana and almost knocked off a Big 10 opponent. Plus, he beat LaTech at NSU last year. Give him time and he'll fix it. Also, who are you going to get that will do that much of a better job? Think about it, you're at NSU, not LSU, and money is an object. The coaching carousel isn't the answer and even if you go out and find a dynamo young coach, he'll leave you high and dry as soon as the next highest paycheck offer comes along." He has a point and as frustrated and mad as I've been this season, we might do well to let this play out in peace (not saying you all haven't, by the way). I will readily admit that I probably got frustrated way too quick this season.

I agree with the loyalty remarks from purplestorm. We have a culture at NSU. We are not like LSU where if they lose a couple of conference games a moving van shows up at the Les Miles house. We support our Coach Mike and other coaches through their teams struggle so long as they are representing the university well. I am proud of that. I want to see victories as much as anyone else. I want our victory over LaTech in 2017 to be a route but I want to have a culture that supports good people, giving their best efforts and I believe the victories will follow. We don't have to be like LSU to be in many ways better than LSU.

Who cares if we beat La Tech, let's win a freak'in conference game. Last year when we beat them we acted like we won a championship and at the end of the year we were 6-6 or whatever. Tech game did not matter. We need to focus on what matters, winning conference games. Good thing we did not play them this year if you noticed what they did to ULL last week. We got away with one, move on.

We definitely need a win. I, too, am LONG over the LaTech "rivalry." But, to beat an FBS team is a nice accomplishment for any FCS program. I don't care if it's the worse team in FBS or a Power Five team. But, you are right, only conference wins count and we haven't been very good in the Southland in a long time. We used to make teams weary of us and a bit nervous because they knew, win or lose, we were bringing a battle to them. Not so much anymore. I saw a glimpse of that last year and it got me excited. But, I have readjusted my expectations to none. Just as I did during the Peveto era. It makes it less stressful and tolerable to watch how it all plays out. I am pulling for Jay. Nice guy and as pissed off as I have been the past two games, he and the team need us now more than ever. I was ready to mail my tickets back and be done for the year. I can't do it. I might miss one home game, but I will make two of the three. Lord willing and the creeks don't rise, of course.

The way I am looking at it right now is that the only game that matters is the next one. Hasn't been a good year so far but still time to turn it around. Our staff has had an extra week to work on a gameplan and I trust that they have the ability to do get us ready.
Hope this week will be the spark that gets us rolling toward being contenders in the SLC.
I still support our Demons and the coaching staff.

Another loss, another losing season. 2 winning seasons out of the last 12 I believe, that is not good no matter how strong the Kool-Aid.

If we get to the end of October and we haven’t won more than two games, he should be let go then and the search should start immediately so that we have our pick of good candidates before other jobs are filled and so our new coach and his staff are in place in time to recruit. Our last three head coaches have all been NSU-retreads. It’s time for something new; someone with no ties to the University. For this hire, I would propose the following: 1. Contact former football players and in personal visits, group visits, and personal outreach, raise a minimum of $300,000 to guarantee an additional $50,000 (for example) per year for three years beyond what our current HC’s salary is, and an additional $25,000 (for example) per year for each of the coordinators. The former players would have to know that their money doesn’t buy them influence in who is chosen, but that they will be kept in the loop on the process. Start that outreach today. We need the financial commitments by Sunday, November 1. 2. Begin the due diligence immediately for a young, up-and-coming HC with a good staff at his current school and who has been successful in the DII or DIII arena. No high school coaches, no older guys playing out the string. We don’t need former players, former coaches, or someone’s brother-in-law. We don’t need people who are hard to fire if they don’t work out, because this always pisses off some constituency and we lose financial supporters (see Peveto, Bradley Dale and Stoker, Scott). We need someone with no ties to the university and who has his own staff in place at the school where he currently is and who wants to move up and then beyond. We have had NO coaching staff continuity since Steve Roberts’ tenure and Roberts’ was simply smart enough to keep the core of Sam Goodwin’s staff. Our staff turnover is horrible and continuity is key. The best way to have continuity is to hire someone else’s up-and-comer who has his own staff and pay them to stay for three years before moving up to the next level if they are successful here. We don’t need another former assistant coach-turned-head coach scrambling to assemble a staff. We need a good young head coach with a good young staff in place and let them go to work. Brilliant! I'm sure our AD's never thought of that! The answer to all the woes of the football program is raise money from "former players, former coaches, or someone's brother-in-law". And he needs to do that "so we can hire an up-and-comer coach and his staff to stay for three years before moving up to the next level". Since "our staff turnover is horrible and continuity is key", that's a brilliant idea! And it's just that easy! NOT! The program has had 3 different OC's since 2011 and FIVE DC's since 2011. Do you think that's a clue? Jay's had only two real recruiting classes, 2014 & 2015. He's had to play roughly half of those recruits and the other half has redshirted. These two classes and the 2016 class will not only make the playoffs before they graduate but will win playoff games. He's got a DC and an OC that will stick with this program and help him transform it into a winning program again. He just needs the time. Firing Jay Thomas now would be idiotic.

I agree, NSUDude. I was pretty upset after UCA and UIW games, but after calming down and pondering our program, I am more convinced now that Jay should be our HC. Why? I doubt anyone of us is more upset than he is. Yet, he has to live it 24/7. No one wants to fix this more than Jay. I am sure his staff and the players feel exactly the same way. That's why I am as calm as can be now and will just enjoy the season for what is has been, is and will be. Jay and Daye (and company) can coach football. While at Missouri Southern, they put players in the NFL and knocked off perennial D2 power, NW Missouri State. I don't know much, but I do know we will be OK over the long haul.

Really??? NFL??? Don't think so. Are you watching the same games that I see? This is not last year's team. The D is missing what...8 players. They have had a different DC for how many years??? 4 or 5?? They are lost. They have the best teachers, so we hope that if there is talent....they will learn. I am not seeing the kind of hits that their coaches are use to. I don't like what I see when they get behind. When the going gets tough, the touch get going. That is not happening. I hope it will change. I know that this week off that changes and adjustments are being mad. Players have to step up and play with passion. PLEASE~~
