This is one area of the team that doesn't get a lot of attention, but is very important. Normally, we're pretty big at TE, but this year, not so much. However, when trading size, you generally gain athleticism, which we have a lot of this season. Now, we're not small at TE, but just not quite as big as normal. This is a guess on how the TE's line up and, as always, heights and weights are within an inch and five to ten pounds of what I list:
Zach White -- 6'1"-250lbs -- Senior -- TX -- Very athletic and tough TE who can run, catch and block. If he were 2 inches taller and 10 pounds heavier, he'd be in the Big12.
Chase Hawthorne -- 6'4"-250lbs -- Sophomore -- LA -- Prototype TE who has the frame to get up to about 260-270lbs and become a great blocker. He could be a good one.
Damien Boone -- 6'2"-220lbs -- Freshman -- LA -- A dynamic athlete who can flat-out play football. I look for him to bulk up to about 230-235lbs and play that TE/HB role.
Here are some other names to remember in the future:
Deshon Ficklin -- 6'2"-225lbs -- Freshman -- LA -- Very similar to Damien Boone. In fact, if they both stay healthy, they will provide a nice combo with Hawthorne.
Charles Vaughn -- 5'11"-250lbs -- Freshman -- LA -- A bit short to play TE; really a FB/RB. Vaughn is super talented and strong and will make a superb HB/TE in the future.
Demontre Evans -- 5'11"-210lbs -- Sophomore -- LA -- Evans is very small for a TE, but talented. Could be used as a blocker and in games where we have a lead.
*Boone and Ficklin are listed as WR's on the athletic website roster, but they will be TE's in the future as they will continue to grow and get stronger. This is not one of our stronger areas on paper, but it doesn't have to be. The TE's just need to be good enough and I think our talent level is beyond good enough. In fact, they have the potential to be very good by season's end.
