NSU linebackers have always been some level of good, but we've been sorely undersized, at least as a group, over the past decade, really. However, that is starting to change. We are also fairly inexperienced (SLC experience) at this position, but not quite as young and inexperienced as the defensive line. Here's how things "should" look this fall barring any key injuries, which we cannot afford. Please note that I may have some of the middle or outside guys mixed up, but the names will be correct and the heights and weights within one inch and five to ten pounds:
Willie Myers -- 5'11"-200lbs -- Senior -- Slash -- MS
Lyn Clark -- 6'2"-230lbs -- Sophomore -- Middle -- LA
Paxton Cook -- 5'9"-220lbs -- Senior -- Outside -- LA
Devonta Allen -- 6'1"-210lbs -- Junior -- Slash -- MS
Shawn Stephens -- 6'1"-240lbs -- Junior -- Middle -- FL
Jacob Merriman -- 6'0"-220lbs -- Senior -- Outside -- TX
Roderick Ross -- 6'1"-205lbs -- Sophomore -- Slash -- LA
Ronald Perry -- 6'1"-235lbs -- Junior -- Middle -- LA
Robert Fabrizio -- 6'1"-220lbs -- Senior -- Outside -- FL
Xavier Braxton -- 5'11"-205lbs -- Freshman -- Slash -- LA
Brice Borgerson -- 6'2"--240lbs -- Freshman -- Middle -- TX
Christian Van Buren -- 5'11"-210lbs -- Sophomore -- Outside -- LA
One name you WILL see in the mix this fall who is out with an injury until conference is:
Peyton Guidry -- 6'1"-220lbs -- Sophomore -- Middle or Outside -- LA
Here are the names who probably won't see this field this fall, but could be in the mix in the future:
Okezie Adim-Madumere -- 6'1"-240lbs -- Junior -- Middle -- TX (could be moved to DE)
Sam Forest -- 6'0"-240lbs -- Sophomore -- Middle -- LA
Jakobi Malone -- 6'1"-245lbs -- Freshman -- Middle -- LA (could be moved to DE)
William Cummings -- 6'0"-230lbs -- Freshman -- Middle or Outside -- LA
I am probably close to being right on the starters, however these names could move up or down depending on how well they play in fall camp and on the field early on during the season. Also, if you don't see these names at LB this season, look for a few of them on special teams as we always need guys who can run, block and hit on kickoffs and punts. This group is about even in underclassmen and older guys, but look for Jay to load up in the offseason to fill holes that will be glaring after this season and next season. Bottom line is we are bigger and deeper than we've been in awhile, but the question is "will we be better?" Time will tell!
