Hello Demon fans,
I'll be making a trip to Natchitoches this weekend to complete a review of the fan experience at Brown-Stroud Stadium on behalf of Stadium Journey. Wanted to reach out ahead of time for some recommendations before the trip:
> Best value hotel in the area (not necessarily cheapest, but not looking for the most elegent either).
> Recommended restaurants (again, not looking for fine dining, but more a good place to eat/drink after the game). Definitely need a meat pie while in town.
> Anything in particular that's unique about the experience at Brown-Stroud (i.e. Best concession item)
> Tips on things to do while in town. I typically write reviews from the perspective of a traveling family. What should people from outside the area be sure to do while in town?
I apologize if this post seems spammy. I've been to Natchitoches before, but it's probably been 10 years since that trip. Hoping to get some updated ideas.
Thanks, Paul Donaldson Stadium Journey

>As far as accommodations go, location is the biggest factor for me when I go back. Church Street Inn is downtown and within walking distance of everything. There are some other B&Bs downtown but they are going to be a little pricey. There are some brand new chain hotels out by the interstate that are actually pretty nice. >As far as dining goes, I would check out Lasyone's and Merci Bocoup…I misspelled that I'm sure. Its literally across the street from the Church Street Inn, great little lunch spot. Also mama's and papa's are a great option for a cold beer and Louisiana cuisine. >Activites kind of depend on what you're looking for, there are some really neat historical sites, I know when I was in school I did an internship with the Tourism Department and there are some tours and Ft St Jean Baptiste is also worth checking out if you're into history. -Enjoy your trip to Natchitoches, let me know if you have any further questions. Ill also provide a link to the tourism website that has all the info. www.natchitoches.net

Pretty bummed they are closed on Sundays. I won't be in town until Saturday evening. Any other recommendations for meat pies?

Almost Home is open on Sunday's...country cooking buffet (1 trip) and you'll leave full as a tick. It's on the spur just past The Mariner's.

I would recommend Merci Beaucoup downtown. They have good meat pies and their in house made orange dressing for salads is wonderful. You might also try the Sin Bar for desert. Mamas and Papas are also good. Papas does stead and burgers mainly with the big c an excellent choice. Mamas is more fish and sea food. As for what to visit the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame is downtown. It has a great collection.

The Landing, Cane River Bar & Grill and Pioneer Pub on Front Street are always busy when I'm in town visiting. I'm sure one of those places, if open, will have meat pies. Of course, Lasyone's is the heritage spot. As far as things to do, a tour of plantation homes or B&B's are always on the docket when in Natchitoches. Campus and Downtown (Front Street) is where is all happens in Natchitoches. I'd stay at Church Street Inn if I could get a room, but even if you stay out by the interstate, it's only a ten-fifteen minute trek to downtown.

Here's what's on the docket for sure: - Restaurants: Merci Beaucoup & Pioneer Pub - Attractions: Bayou Pierre Alligator Park, Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame, & a plantation tour - Lodging: Staying at Best Western on University, but will definitely check out Church Inn Street in the future. I'll try to fit in more if time permits. Looking forward to the trip. I'll be back in the fall as well to finally get Turpin up on the site. If you're interested in following along, I'm planning to review each Louisiana DI college baseball stadium this spring: www.stadiumjourney.com/news/03-25-2015/1037/stadium-journey-to-tour-louisiana-college-baseball-venues-in-2015By the way, any recommendations on concessions? Is there a go-to or unique item on the menu, or more traditional ballpark fare?
