Just looking at everyone's schedule and for fun ranked everyone in the state.
1. UL-Lafayette 10-2 Best Win: LSU Worst loss: none
Cajuns have a very solid team. Solid pitching with solid offense.
2. LSU 9-2 Best Win: SLU Worst loss: Yale
Hard to get a read on LSU. May have the best pitcher in the country (Nola) but have played a very weak schedule.
3. McNeese 7-3 Best Win: Southern Miss Worst Loss: none
McNeese looks solid right now with a win over a good USM team.
4. Tulane 8-3 Best Win: none Worst Loss: 2/3 to Sacred Heart
Solid pitching but a very suspect offense. Fielding has been spotty at times
5. Northwestern State 6-4 Best win: Swept Southern Worst Loss: none
Very solid ball club. Demons have played a tough schedule. Big Question is if the Demons can get over the hump and return to being the elite team they were in the 90's. Offense does need to improve to give more support to the pitching staff.
6. Nicholls 6-6 Best Win: UL-Monroe Worst Loss: None
Competitive club being fielded on the bayou. I don't see them having the talent to win conference regular season but I do see them making the tourney and possibly making a run.
7. UL-Monroe 6-6 Best Win: 2/3 SLU Worst loss: 2/3 from Grand Canyon
Hard to get a read on ULM. Losing 2/3 to GCU (my other alma mater) looks bad, but they may end up being a good team. On the other hand they took 2 from SLU.
8. SLU 7-4 Best win: none Worst loss: 2/3 to ULM
Did not see them losing 2 of 3 to ULM. Would like to rate them above Nicholls but hard to do with no marquee wins.
9. UNO 3-7 Best Win: South Alabama Worst loss: Swept by Indiana State
UNO is making strides after being one of the worst college teams during the last 2 seasons. Maestri is a good coach and if anyone can get them into a tourney it would be him. Still, I expect them to miss the tourney this year.
10. Louisiana Tech 3-7 Best Win: none Worst Loss: multiple
Louisiana Tech's pitching staff has given up 10+ runs in 5 of their 10 games. Unless their pitching staff can improve it will be a long first year in CUSA.
11. Southern 2-5 Best Win: none Worst loss: UNO
Southern played well against NSU but could not get a win. Cador is an excellent coach and should have them in the running to win the SWAC and make a regional.
12. Grambling 2-9 Best win: none Worst loss: hard to say
Simply put, Grambling has major problems with every athletic team they field. They simply aren't at a division 1 level at most sports. Their baseball team will play hard and with pride, but effort only gets so far with limited talent.
