OK, we shook off the Texas A&M drubbing and posted a win tonight over NAIA opponent -- Lyon College -- 75-64. We had a 28-10 lead at one time. They outscored us 54-47 after that point. Now, a win is a win and I'm glad we won, but this was much too close of a ballgame. We should win these games by A LOT ... unless we choose not to for some reason. No disrespect to Lyon College because they had a player hit 33 points against us. I wish he played for us. Looking forward, our first wave is good. No worries there. Our second wave needs a lot of work, which is why we play these games, of course. Call it two off nights and I'll buy it. Call it early season jitters and I'll buy it. Call it starting slow and I'll buy it. But, we can't run from a major issue and that is our lack of three-point shooting. In two games, we have hit 9 of 59 three-point attempts. If that continues, it's going to be a LONG year based on our lack of size down low and the style of basketball we play, which relies on shooting the three ball well to succeed.

Hard to say this early, and honestly basketball really isn't my thing, so I can't really contribute much insight. I'm banking on Coach Mike having them ready when it counts though.

Basketball isn't my thing, either. But, since we play it and we play it well, I tend to peek in on the teams to see how they're doing. Coach Mike is awesome and we'll be fine. I just noticed that 3-point stat the first two games and it stood out to me. We'll get better and be in the mix, I'm sure. I just like when we get to the post-season tournament. It's the best advertising for our athletic program on the market ... by a long shot. March Madness is a gold mine for mid-major basketball. And I hate to say it, but I expect us to compete for that prestigious tournament at least three out of five years. Hopefully we actually make it at least once every four to five years, too. That's actually lights out for our level. And we're doing that since Coach Mike took over. He has put NSU in the spotlight in 2000, 2006 and 2012. And has gotten close on at least three other occasion. Not too shabby.

And on top of that he's had to recruit kids to play in prather!
