I completely agree, I kinda wish our stadium was a bit smaller. I agree. When we get 9 or 10k, our stadium still looks a wee bit empty. When some of our peers -- UCA, SLU, Nicholls, Abilene -- get that many, they're packed out. And even though it's the same number of fans, perception is 90 percent of reality. Our stadium needs 12k-plus in it to look good. And the closest we've come to averaging that many was back in the late 90's, early 2000's. McNeese has the luxury of being in the middle of Lake Charles, which helps them average about 12 to 14k a year. SFA and Sam have the same issues we do. Lamar's stadium is a bit smaller than ours and a bit bigger than the smaller one's in the conference. But, if you look at it, we'll end up in the upper third to about half in attendance this year and we're one of the smallest markets in the league. And we've been on a losing streak. It could be worse.

Last year for Southern was a near sellout, and the biggest crowd I can remember before that was North Dakota in 2009, which was Peveto's first home game, easily 12-13k.
We do amazing with how small of a market and how small of a school we are, it really is a testament to our fans. I'm really liking what I hear from our new president, and his mission to get 10k+ back on campus, if that comes to fruition our crowds will be back to the size they were in the late 90s.

Just wanted to congratulate you on the win. That was a very efficient a** whooping. I was impressed. Eagan and Adkins have some kind of chemistry going on. We are so happy to be back in the SLC. I think the atmosphere will improve with the on campus stadium as well as getting to know our opponents better. You were the first old SLC member to come to Abilene. (Edit: Lamar was a home game earlier) Transition is hard. I am pleased that we have been competitive but watching the Demons makes me realize how far we have to go. Good luck the next two weeks. Abilene will transition into the southland just fine, plenty of talent to work with from what I saw. Really glad to finally have added another solid athletic program. I don't think anyone in Abilene has ever even heard of Northwestern State so like you said once you start getting to know opponents better the crowds will improve along with the on campus stadium. Good luck against SFA.

We do a great job given our geography, no doubt. In the same token, we have two solid markets -- Shreveport/Bossier & Alexandria/Pineville -- to pull from when things continue to improve, as well. I think the new president and Coach Thomas and Company will do a great job in helping us get back to those crowds of the 90s, too. I'd be happy averaging 12k-13k, really. That leaves leg room for everyone. But, if we can do better, that's great, too.
