Based on what I've seen with Twitter reactions, we are doing very well on the recruiting trail. High schools where I haven't seen a freshman athlete from in a while are committing to NSU. Prepare for some growing pains, but we will be a tough, hard-nosed team come the Fall!!!

Seems we signed six in December and then four transfers. I also saw where a player from Many -- RB -- committed to NSU. I am not sure how this class will look after tomorrow, but we're about to find out. Looking forward to a new roster listing.

We have signed 25 new players since December. It seems there is an announced walk-on tryout session soon. That will likely add about 10-12 players. Add another three-five transfers and we're at 35-40 new faces. If these numbers are even close, this means we'll have a 35-40 percent roster turnover. Maybe even more. So, a fresh start with a fresh coaching staff and basically a new roster. I'd wouldn't count on a winning season in year one. Maybe not even year two, but it seems this staff is after players with solid GPA averages, high-character, and maybe have flown under the radar a bit and need development to hit their potential. In other words, they have two, three, maybe even four-star potential, but they aren't there yet. This is how it should be done. Sam Goodwin put a lot of guys in the NFL with this approach.

I will be really interested to see who is returning from last year and get an idea of what the full roster will look like. The record last season was obviously not good, but at least some of the players were talented. I would like to have back any talented player who is willing to buy in, both on and off the field.

The sad reality of college football as a whole is just going to be massive amounts of change year to year. We could run through all the power 5 programs to our level of transfers in and out, the numbers will not be small. Jovon Antonio enters the portal and an then has an offer from Colorado a few days later... hmm someone clearly told him that if he enters the portal he will get NIL money and a spot on the CU roster. My concern is hanging on to players who are very talented and then being told more money can be made if they leave. College football is unregulated and unchecked right now. This is the game and we have to get used to it and deal with it as best we can as an FCS program. 15-20 players entering the portal will be the norm. Clement leaves a starting qb job to be a backup at a conference rival, it may not make sense, but thats the world the ncaa created.

This is exactly the new football climate we have to endure. It makes life tough for an FCS program. I had reported earlier that Zach Patterson was out, then possibly still around. Well, I talked to him the other day. He is still with the team and wanted things to work out, but not much chance he will stay on much longer. Nothing against the new coaches or scheme, it just won't allow him to prepare for a shot at the NFL. The coaches are taking a new direction with the offense and his skill set won't be utilized. He will probably get a look from a school or two that likes to pass a lot more once he gets in the portal. Good luck Zach. God speed. I'm looking forward to this next season. We may not win many games, but it will be fun to begin following and cheering for a new look program.

So, we're running the triple-option? We're not going to pass the ball at all. He should stay unless he has a guaranteed spot in a better place. He can show enough to get a shot at the next level.

When you see a fullback and an emphasis on tight ends, we will be a team using 22 personnel. Take a look at North Dakota State over the years, I think that's the offense we will be similar to in the upcoming years.
Does it give a lot of opportunities for passing? It can, if you are someone who can block downfield and be ready for the play action pass.
I feel there is a place for Zach but he may feel he needs a wide open offense to spread his wings and I respect that.

We will certainly move away from the spread we have been running and into a more traditional offense, but throwing the football will still be necessary to win football games. We signed receivers and if someone is good enough the NFL will find them. ND state still has to throw the ball and does so, but relies on downfield passing that’s been set up by an effective running game.

Have we added anymore High School signees to the 15 that was reported on 2/7? The first 15 had some big boys. A few skill guys and we got 1 Freshman QB on scholarship.

What quantifies a lot? Having a team full of walk-on's isn't going to take us to greener pastures. Finding diamonds in the rough, however, is the most exciting part of college football.

I agree with the hope of finding a diamond. I just wonder if we are handcuffed to a smaller signing class because the extra year was granted. Much like the covid year.

Often times walk on tryouts are done for bodies to have for practice and scout team, this is done even at the power 5 level.

I was a walk-on here at NSU back in the Goodwin era. It was about bodies on the practice field. Sure, there were a few guys who dressed out and made the travel team, but it was usually if they hung around long enough, worked hard, and caught the right break. I, on the other hand, did not last that long. It was a good experience, and I'm glad I did at least have the experience and the memories to go with it.
