I need not remind anyone on this board that we haven't won in Lake Charles since the late 1980s. Many Cowboys fans seem to think they "owe" us one from last year. Really? The truth is we owe them several and I'm looking forward to the day that worm turns and they have to live with the short end of the stick for awhile. I'm not sure we'll win this coming Saturday, but I am sure we'll compete hard. Line'em up and let's see what happens.

Posted on the AGS message board:
The Demons of Northwestern State (1-7; 1-4) make the trek south to Lake Charles to take on the Cowboy of McNeese (5-4; 3-3). Both teams seem to be improving each week. It is a game most people have written off due to the records of the two teams. Don't tell this to the Demons and Cowboys, as there is no love lost between the two schools on the football field.
Northwestern has played very well in its last two games, a one point loss at home (due to a failed two-point conversion) to UCA and an upset OT win on the road at UIW.
The Cowboys are on a streak having played and won two homecoming games (at home and at SFA), have won two in a row for the first time since last year, and won a game on the road for the first time, also since last year. (The series between SFA and McNeese has been a strange one with McNeese now having won four straight at Homer Bryce Stadium and the visiting team has won 7 out of the last 8 contests.)
As for Northwestern and McNeese
McNeese vs. Northwestern State - The Series • Saturday's game will be the 69th meeting between the Cowboys and Demons with McNeese holding a 46-21-1 lead in the all-time series. • McNeese has dominated the series lately, having won 13 straight games before losing a double OT heartbreaker in Natchitoches last season. • Northwestern has not won in Lake Charles since 1988!
Throw the record books out the window!

Why is this a 4:00pm game? I thought McNeese's thing was they always played at 7?
Anyway it will take another incredible effort (and a few breaks) for us to break this 33 year old streak. I would love for it to end this year but McNeese will be ready to play after last year's game. I will say this, after watching the game last week vs UIW i think we are probably the best 1-7 team you'll see.

The new coaching staff and (unpopular) AD thought earlier games would be good for attendance. Maybe now that it's getting cooler, it will be a good idea, but many fans are now no longer able to attend games because of work. Also, in case you didn't know, the Cowboys football team is now on the home side of the stadium for the first time in forever. So if you do travel for the game, you might want to bring floppy hats and sunblock.
Demon fans should come on down! Watch the game and still have time do drive back at a fairly reasonable time.
I posted on this board last year when the season was just getting underway that I thought it might be the year for the Demons to beat the Cowboys, and it happened. Can the Demons break the losing streak in The Hole this year? Ought to be a good one.

I asked a fellow alum if we could finally beat McNeese in Lake Charles. I mean, we've blown about five games down there in the past 30 years. From players tripping before they score to missed FGs to last-minute mistakes, etc. All that said, this fellow alum said the cards were stacked against us, but that's why we play the game. I'm not expecting us to win based on the season, but based on how we've played the past two games, we could be quite the challenge for the Pokes. We seem to be hitting a stride that just wasn't there early on in the season. We'll shall see. McNeese is still McNeese and Lake Charles is still a place we've yet learned to conquer.

With the new coaching staff and new offense and defense, we have slowly improved as the season has gone along. We probably played our best second half of the season at SFA last week. That being said, we have a lot of players banged up right now, so who knows what will happen this Saturday. Should be a good game and the weather will be nice and on the cool side.

Today's game speaks to two teams that have gotten better over the course of the season. Of course, the key to today's game will be who wins the turnover battle, this seems to keep up with the trend of recent games. The hope as a Demon fan is we do not hear too much of "Joli Blon" today. Hope for a good game, but more importantly, a Demon win in Lake Charles!

Holy Moses our kicking game is just awful. We’re playing well and I’m happy to have the lead at half but we should be up 20-9 at least. Special teams once again bite us in the ass.

Tried to watch this thing on ESPN+ and it's "blacked out"...wtf? Why am I paying for ESPN+?! And why is it blacked out in Northeast Texas? We can't even get whatever provider is covering the game. Bush league...
Demons playing their ass off...just wish we could cash in those FG's for TD's!

I have a bad feeling we're gonna regret settling for FG's...we've kept McNeese bottled up but that lid is only gonna stay on for so long.

Opportunities were there to win this game and we just seem to be one of those teams that can't get out of their own way to finish a game. Not sure what magic we captured last week to play so well in the second half but we definitely sputtered offensively after the break and the turnovers just killed us. Bummer, i was hopeful after how well we played in the first half.
