Really feels like there has been a huge wind taken out of our sails after the UCA game. Important game, if we don't win this we may be looking at a 1-11 or 0-12 season.
Hard to get a read on UIW. They barely won against Texas A&M-Kingsville, but almost knocked off UTEP and beat Nicholls.
Nicholls has been pretty bad the last 2 years so tough to see if this was a solid win or not. The fact that they almost beat UTEP is concerning as I would consider UTEP comparable to ULL.
To say this is a must win is an understatement. Any small chance we have to salvage this season would be gone with a loss here and an 0-5 start.

Keith Zembower (Zem's Gems) had an interesting take on the Demons. I can't say I disagree with him. source: Zem's Gems

How depressing...seems like this is not the first year of this flip flopping on our "issues" after a few losses...

A loss here would be pretty devastating. The way they played UTEP is worrisome.
If anyone is bored check out the raging pagin or la tech bbb forums for some real entertainment regarding the Tech v ULL game this weekend.

ULL would thrash UTEP. UTEP is bad when it comes to FBS standards. Now, that doesn't mean we will beat UIW. I watched their first-half against McNeese on ESPN3 and they were pretty tough. They have a pretty good QB. I am hoping our offense can produce enough points in this game and our defense can tighten up enough that we'll squeak out a win on the road. Being on the road should help us as it will take the pressure off from performing at home. IF we win, we can try to reboot with a week off and prepare for a VERY good Lamar team for Homecoming. It would be a chore to beat them given what we've seen from us thus far this season, but if we can start clicking, you just never know. I don't know what our problem is and don't really care as I have little time to focus on it. That's why they pay Coach Thomas and the rest of the staff ... to worry about those things. I know we have the talent and the depth, but talent alone is not enough. Team chemistry, coaching up, schemes, in-game adjustments, etc. make all the difference in the world. Finally, I'm a Blumenthal fan. That doesn't mean I don't like the other three QBs, but I think he gives us the best chance to produce points with his legs and his arm. But, again, I'm not the coach and they obviously see something in Almond that they like. But, please, please, please ... STOP with the zone read with Almond in the game. It's not his specialty and it doesn't work and everyone and their granny figured that one out in the stands last weekend.

Glad to see he's putting Zem's Gems out again for public consumption. I don't have a problem tooting our own horn. It is a business after all, but we need to start backing it up every now and then for legitimacy. Just saying.

Cardinals strike quick but Demons answer with a Td to make it 21-7 Demons. Only listening to the radio broadcast but offense seems to be very efficient thus far.

Cardinals score after a long drive and cut the Demon lead to 21-14. Halftime.

UIW athletic website has a video feed. It's pretty good. Good news is our offense seems to be doing better on some things. Almond does not look comfortable in the pocket when he feels heat and he does NOT have a deep arm. In Almond's defense, he is managing the game very well, though. He's also a Sophomore and could be real good in a year or two. Bad news is our defense just gave up 200 yards in one half to UIW. But, we have the lead at the half for the first time this year. So, one positive at a time, I guess. I fear UIW's seasoned coach might outfox our coaches, however. This is not a gimme win ... at all. For reference, McNeese gave up 230 yards to UIW in the whole game.

Boys, their defense has tightened up and our defense is getting worse. When you blow a 21-7 lead and the other team is starting to rise ... that's coaching. We're in trouble.

Quite a turnaround. Their past two drives have been way too easy.

Almond is a gamer and our offense has potential, but our play calling is atrocious. Absolutely horrid. Our OL isn't opening good holes and we keep trying to run the zone read with Almond and run it up the middle with our small RBs. Neither are working well. Our defense still has a LONG way to go. We'll be darn lucky to escape this place with a win. In fact, if we keep settling for FGs, we won't win.
