Here we go again, the game I dread every year….By comparative scoring this game should be a complete rout and over at halftime, but its Nicholls..vs Northwestern and they will throw together the best game they've ever played and we won't show up for what should be an easy win. At least that's what I'll be expecting.
Last week Nicholls lost IWU 38-20, a team which we handled very easily. Senior night and I hope guys like Adkins, Atzenweiler, Chapman, and Claiborne go out with a win at home, been fun watching those guys play.

We are too focused and playing too well right now to not be prepared for this game. NSU 41 Nicholls 17

I would like to thinks so, but keep in mind we were playing well going into the game last year and got beaten by a team with ONE conference win in 4 years. Losing this game cannot happen again, I can chalk up last year to a fluke but Incarnate word blew them out for crying out loud. I keep having flashbacks to 2011 I think when we had a chance to play for a conference title and Nicholls came up to Natchitoches and beat the dog shit out of us on a miserable grey afternoon. Hopefully we don't let that happen again, not that we have a shot for the conference title, but a 7-5 finish would be awesome.

We haven't played "this well" since 2008. That being said, if we stay focused, we should have our first winning record since 2010 ... which lasted one week. No disrespect to Nicholls, but they are in too much disarray to beat us right now.

Very nice win. Too many penalties, but a great win nonetheless. Feels good to be 6-5 with a chance at our first winning season since 2008 and a chance at the playoffs ... as minute a chance as it is.

It was a good win, great to have a chance at a winning season and a chance to keep the Chief at home.
Program is making strides

I was a little discouraged after Nicholls drove down and scored on the first possession so easily and celebrated as if they'd won the super bowl, but Adkins went to work and we responded very nicely down the stretch. Good win, and good for Jay, I know he was especially relieved after last year's debacle down there.

Hope you are correct. What makes you think so. I know you've done the research!

It's a long shot, but it can happen. SLU is the only team that is "in." Sam is likely in no matter what happens in their game against UCA. SFA is definitely in if they beat us. No question. It gives them 8 wins. McNeese is done. Soft schedule and losses to SFA, SLU and Sam has hurt them. They have no signature wins this season. Unless you count beating us. Even if McNeese beats Lamar, they won't get in. Technically, Lamar is still in the hunt, but literally they have no chance to make it. None. What will it take to get NSU in the field of 24? Sam needs to beat UCA to remove them from any consideration and we need to beat SFA. If UCA beats Sam and we beat SFA, that will weaken our chances given that UCA beat us and we'll have the same record, even though we're higher in the power rankings. Again, how can we slip in with a 7-5 record? Here's how ... FBS games don't count against you if you lose. So, the shellacking by Baylor doesn't harm us. However, they help you if you win. So, beating La Tech was huge. Now, given we beat SFA, which will be quite a challenge, and take away the non-harmful Baylor loss, we'd be 7-4 ... with one of those wins coming against an undefeated (in conference) CUSA (FBS) team. No other team in the SLC has any FBS mojo working for them. So, if UCA and SFA lose and our conference is deemed to deserve three playoff picks, we'd be the third pick based on what I just explained and tie-breakers of a load of teams being 5-3 in conference. But, we're definitely done if we lose and SFA is definitely in if they win. So, it will take our best game of the year to try to pull off the unthinkable. Finally, if we win, there will be those on the committee who will try to shove us aside with a 7-5 record for a Sacred Heart with a 9-2 record, but a poorer power ranking. But, if we win, we'll be in the Top 20 in power rankings with an FBS win, a win over Sam, SFA and close losses to SLU and McNeese, so all that will be hard to ignore. The odds are against us, however. Hope that made sense.

"So you're telling me there's a chance!!??"
Yea that actually makes perfect sense, thanks for going through the trouble of typing all that out.

The odds are against us, however. Hope that made sense. Sam is NOT likely in no matter what. If they lose to UCA, they will not get in at 7-5, with a loss to a D2. They could still get in if Nicholls beats SLU and they win the 3-way tiebreaker but they will not get an at-large. SFA will be on the bubble if they win, and out if they lose. It's 50/50 for Lumberjacks if they beat the Demons. A lot will depend on how games around the country shake out this weekend. As mentioned, NW State and UCA are long shots. I don't think either will get in but there could be a dark horse scenario where a 7 win team is considered. In that case, the Demons best hope is the committee gives heavy weight to the W over La Tech, plus SHSU needs to beat UCA. The loss to Missouri State was a killer. McNeese and Lamar are done.

I forgot about Sam's D2 loss. Good point. Well, it will be what it will be, but it's been a LONG time since anyone cheering for NSU could even fathom "playoffs." Even if our chance is remote of making the field. If we do get in, someone please send La Tech a fruit basket for Christmas.

At the very least it gives our players and coaches extra motivation. We finished strong last year, and to do it again this season would be big. Even if the chance is slim for a postseason berth.
