If there was ever someone who deserved to be honored, Bill Brent is definitely that man. Really represented our school well. The few times I've ran into him he was nothing but courteous and friendly. Glad to see him honored, if I still lived in the area I would definitely go.

Bill Brent also, almost, single handily transformed the Music Dept. and Spirit of Northwestern into what it is today. When he first arrived at NSU the marching band had around 50 people in it...well, he spent nearly every free moment recruiting and traveling the roads of Louisiana and East Texas to get into as many h.s. band halls as possible. Well, it worked and his first freshmen class was 90 strong...more than doubling the size of the previous year's "SoN". In 1992 the wind ensemble was also selected, after audition process, to perform at the CBDNA Southern Convention.
He may be one of the most important and influential hires in Northwestern history...over the years how many students decided to attend NSU because of the marching band? Or because of the strength of the CAPA? Or because of the band scholarships? And how many more decided to attend because they had friends that were already at NSU because they were recruited by Mr. Brent?

Northwestern State hit a homerun the day Bill was hired from Texas. You are correct when you said that he almost single handidly transformed the music deparment. The SON Marching Band is the most noticable to the average fan; but he has been instrumental in expanding the whole department.
