I haven't seen anything regarding Tarleton, ACU, or UTA rejoining the southland. Not saying you're wrong because they are certainly going to be grabbing for life rafts at this point, but the smoke with SFA returning was more apparent.
We shall see, I don't know personally if i want the conference to be that big, but its all about stability these days.

Per the ACU AD they remain committed to the WAC and have no plans to leave the WAC or UAC at this moment:
“I think we’re pretty comfortable in the WAC. There was a time when we came into the WAC, and then within the first year, we were gonna have eight Texas schools in the WAC,” Schubert shared. “I think, in a matter of days, that’s probably going to be down to three, because I think you’ll see another one of the Texas schools exit within the next four to five days. There will be a public announcement that radically changes the landscape because the travel costs student-athlete time out of class.”

With the ULL DE coming in, that gives us 10 total defensive linemen, counting the three incoming freshmen. That's enough if we are running a 3-4-4, but I think we are going with a 4-3-4? If that is the case, we will likely need a minimum of 12 DL. Also, the roster only has six LBs listed, and hardly any with D-I experience. It seems the S from Many was moved to LB in the spring. He's a good player. I think we have two LNs coming in as freshmen, as well. So, we still have some holes to fill. The depth at DB looks solid, at least on paper, but I am not sure on experience. All this said, the defense is way ahead of the offense. I think finding a QB that can run the offense and shoring up depth on the OL is priority. Slow and steady wins the race, I guess.

Modified Southland schedule includes a game removed against UIW, the game at Commerce flipped to a home game, and obviously the addition of SFA. Which i assume in future schedules will be slated again for the last week of the season. Also worth noting we had a non conference game against SFA in september of '25 that i assume will be removed and another opponent will have to be found for that date.

The SLC AD's have voted not to do any further expansion at this time. Grand Canyon and Seattle aren't leaving the WAC until the end of this upcoming season, and so the SLC, ACU, UTA, and Tarleton will have time to figure things out. Personally, I would like to stay with 12 SLC schools. I'm really not in favor of adding more Texas schools, mainly for the reason is they become a majority and outvote the Louisiana schools.
SLU fans have stated that they aren't real happy with the addition of UTRGV because of the travel. Some aren't thrilled about the trek to San Antonio. They probably feel that way about letting ACU back in. If I had my way, I wouldn't accept ACU back. It's not just football remember. Soccer, volleyball, basketball, baseball, and softball all have to make these trips. Also, y'all may not know this, but when ACU left for the WAC they said lots of ugly things about the SLC and some of the schools in particular. I think ACU has a new administration now, but I don't think those other schools will forget what was said. So when the ACU president says they are happy with the WAC, it may be the only thing he can say at this time.
McNeese and Northwestern are pretty lucky as for our location, kind of being in the middle of the SLC footprint, but UTRGV and ACU are very long hauls.
Well, the new football schedule came out. Our first conference game will be a home game against SFA. The Cowboys will be coming to see y'all in November. Otherwise, the schedule sucks as we have no home games in October. And in October, one weekend we travel all the way to SA to face UIW, and then the very next weekend we head on another long trip to Nicholls.

Glad to have SFA back in the Southland. It feels a little like getting back with your ex-girlfriend, but the rivalry is nice. Now if our new administration can get their heads out of their asses and bring back the Chief..

I was under the impression all of the schools that left for the wac said some very ugly things about the southland, especially directed at us in Louisiana. ACU can go kick rocks, there is no way they aren't freaked out about their future and where they will find a conference home in the long term. |
