Clement entering transfer portal. When the starting QB decides to leave, apparently, he isn't too optimistic about the future of the program.

This is in response to Laird keeping Beau Blair as the OC. Many of the offensive players do not like him or at least the way he handles business, so the purge has begun. There will be others who will leave. So, Laird won't only need to replace an O-line coach, he needs some players from the portal. I mentioned in a post a while back, how the portal would be the demise of college programs our size. When you reflect a bit on things, immaturity and instant gratification aren't good companions. Together, they make a quick end to affiliations. That being said, the dumpster fire has started and I'm not sure anyone can put it out.

Interesting times in college football. No longer do athletes have to earn the right to play, but universities have to earn the right to have an athlete play for them. This isn't sustainable and won't last. You can't give the keys of your car and house to your kids to manage. They will wreck the car and burn the house down. The NIL experiment will fail miserably in the end. It's too decentralized, unregulated, and corrupt. As for this young man leaving NSU, I wish him luck. He will need it. Most in the transfer portal never end up anywhere else. Why? There are only so many spots available out there and there are a ton of athletes looking for new homes. What a cluster!

Clement says part of his reason is because he felt like he "missed out on the full recruiting experience his senior year due to injury"...so far he has offers from Eastern Illinois and McNeese (who was worse than us this year).
He also declined an interview from a local newspaper...which to me speaks volumes.

Loyalty isn't common these days. Many adults aren't loyal anymore, so how can you expect young people to be loyal? They have poor examples. I am guessing he was told he will have to compete for the starting job with an incoming transfer or transfers and he doesn't want to do that. I just hope the transfer is an upgrade from Clement or we're just spinning our wheels. We've become really good at spinning our wheels.

Based on the portal activity, they are recruiting two QBs. A transfer from Wisconsin and another from South Dakota. Listen, I like Clement but we are nothing without a consistent run game and an offensive line in front of the QB. Several games, the QB didn't have the time to throw the ball down the field. We have to fix those issues because no matter the QB we have...we cannot continue to be one dimensional on offense.

The portal is great in that it gives a school a chance to retool with experienced and developed players quickly. It also gives players a second chance to excel elsewhere if they make the correct decisions.
It is brutal on HS recruits. Once you get past that top level of recruits, teams tend to focus more on the portal than a high school kid that might take a year or two to develop. No longer are teams taking 25 high school recruits per year unless they are power 5 teams. You are now seeing teams taking about 15 recruits and filling the rest of the teams needs with transfers.
Hey it is what it is. We just have to get use to it. I really don’t think it’s going anywhere. I think it’s here to stay.

Shows what kind of leader Clement really is… And how the hell would you have any idea what kind of leader he is? I can tell by the way he plays and how he treated his teammates he's a leader. No doubt about it, he gave it all every snap and had no protection and a non existent run game. He sees the status quo returning and wants to win. I can't blame him one iota for leaving, hell if i were him i certainly would put my name in the portal. Entering his name in that portal and exploring his options and what is best for him is no indictment of his character. But go ahead and say that about a 20 year old kid you don't even know.

I don't personally know Clement, but do know other guys who play around him. One of the receivers and I were talking and he's not upset with Clement. He was disappointed that he was leaving, but you just have to move on at this point. Clement is trying to get to medical school, so it's not a real surprise that he was ready to go.

There could be any number of reasons for his departure. He had a relationship with his old qb coach who recruited him and is now at SLU, he didn't get along with the OC, his girlfriend goes to SLU, you never know. But it doesn't mean he's not a leader. I wish him the best but of course hope we beat them when they roll into town next fall.

The mysterious portal to nowhere continues to claim more victims. Cedric Anderson is now departing for the Netherworld of college football.

The sad reality is that somewhere around 35-40% of players find a home after entering the portal.
