I think it's time we face reality. We're wasting money trying to compete at D1. We need to just drop down to D2 or D3 and maybe we might have some success in a sport. Kids don't want to come play at NSU and coaches don't want to come coach at NSU.
At least losing to LSUS or LSUA or Midwestern state won't be quite as embarrassing.

It's really sad to think of where we are these days. Never in a million years did I think that Nicholls would have a better athletic dept. than we do. Do they really? That's debatable but they're winning in the sports that "matter" to the general public. Everyone tends to focus on football but look at what our mens and womens basketball teams have become the past 5 years or so. On the mens side, Coach McConathy is a good coach but the talent we used to get just does not want to come play here. Womens basketball is a little more complicated. Girls don't want to come to NSU and play and coaching is why we got beat by LSUS...or LSUA...or Centenary. It's hard to keep track of who is beating us these days. James Smith isn't even dead and he's turning in his grave...

I think you’re painting with a broad brush. Agree there are some sports that need to be better. Also think we’ve got good coaches in about every sport and in several sports have some of the best athletes too. I get that volleyball is a sport most don’t follow but NSU had the player of the year this season and soccer played in the championship match with something like 20 freshmen. Football just hasn’t gotten over the hump and lost winnable games this year that kept them from being .500 or better and that has caused a stir among the fan base. I also like what I’ve seen and heard about the men’s basketball program and think come conference time they’ll compete well. Spring sports will be very competitive. I’m like you struggling to hang in there at times but it’s far from a lost cause.
