...announced in an email sent to faculty today. Present Webb conveyed his intentions to the ULS BoR as soon as a suitable replacement can be found.
Cross your fingers we get one as good, or better, than Randy! A bad choice for pres. can really hurt a university...which Jindal may have in the back of his mind.

Decision is long overdue in my opinion. Couldn't come at a better time, we really need someone with some energy and bring some fresh ideas to energize the Natchitoches campus. We talked about this quite a bit on delphi forum discussion, but on campus attendance has been in decline and we need rejuvenation to get NSU a really attractive place for HS seniors.

I don't want to start a heated discussion, but I do think this will be good for the university.

No heated discussion, as there are only 5 people that even visit the message board. Webb did a lot of great things for the university and got things back on track. It was during his tenure that we saw the largest enrollment in NSU history and 100% accreditation of all degree programs, but I do agree...it was time. Probably should've happened about 8 years ago.
As a CAPA person, a change in president makes me more nervous than most. Not everyone has an appreciation for the Arts. It was because of Dr. Alost, and the continuation through Dr. Webb, that we're allowed to have the size of the Spirit of Northwestern, and not some rinky dink marching band like Monroe or Tech. It was said that after playing NLU back in the late 80's or early 90's (who used to have a marching band around 250 back then) that Dr. Alost was tired of "losing halftime" and decided to put more funding into music scholarships and hired Bill Brent...let's just say that halftime at NSU has never been the same since!

Just wasn't sure how loyal you were to Webb, so had to say that. He did some great things for the university I'm sure, but also was a thorn in the side of the coaching staffs across the entire athletic department. Ever wonder why Campbell and the Henderson St. coach didn't take our job?? Thank Webb for that...(Although it worked out well for us in the long run) just saying we shouldn't have been running off coaches.
Also I'm just not on board with all this e-learning that is almost completely overtaking on-campus classes at this point. We need NSU to be a thriving place bustling with activity like when I was there and when students only have to take one class a week on campus, that isn't going to happen. I know it has helped a lot of people across the state get an education who are limited in their ability to take on campus classes, but it has gotten way out of hand and thus numbers are down in Natchitoches. He wouldn't go to bat for us in Baton Rouge and right now more than ever we need a warrior who goes to the state and fights for what we need.
Although I myself wasn't in CAPA, I always enjoyed what they did and think that is a great source of pride for the school. The department I finished in however is in serious trouble, and I hope isn't cut.

I was at NSU when Dr. Webb took office. While I came in under Alost, Webb's name is on my diploma. He did some good things for the school and has always been a faithful friend and servant to the University. He will be missed in some respects, but it was definitely time for new direction and energy. I know he will be an asset to the school in the political arena. I have seen four president's in my time around NSU. My mom nearly went into labor with me in a Biology lab classroom under the administration of Arnold Kilpatrick and I have watched as Orze, Alost, and Webb came and went. It will be interesting to see who gets the home on Chaplains Lake next.

Any word on who they are looking at? I know who I would like to pick. Let's just say that he is young, energetic, and has ties to the Natchitoches community and has been a Demon his entire life and is already very well respected on campus. I do think this will be positive for the school. I am very thankful for Webb, but it is time for some fresh ideas.

Hmmmmmm......could he be a former athlete/coach, who is a lifelong Natchitoches native/resident?

I know I'm late to this but yes, I have thought for a long time that Chris Maggio would be absolutely awesome as president of NSU.
Smart, knowledgeable, respected, knows the lay of the land, loves NSU and has the pedigree to back it up.
