Rumor that was mentioned last night that this could be Mike McConathy last season as Head Coach, currently 24 -57 in last 3 seasons. Calling it a Farewell tour. Don't know if it's true or not. But going winless in the SLC could be the issue.

He's having a shitty season and they've been not good the past several seasons but the problem is we could always end up with someone worse. Mike is a good coach...chances are we won't find someone that good to replace him.

I can see both sides of this.
On one hand the results of the last few seasons are not acceptable and the program has trended downward lately and we are no longer even being competitive. End of the day college sports is a business and if the results aren't positive, changes are to be made.
On the other hand, Coach Mac is a great coach and I believe he turn the program around. May be difficult for us to find a coach as good as he is.
I trust everyone involved to make the correct choice.
If this is indeed the end for Coach Mac I do thank him for everything and for providing one of the greatest moments in Demon history.

It’s pretty amazing that he has been here 19 years, 2 years longer than Goodwin. Anyone know the longest tenured coach that NSU has had in all sports?

Amazing thing about Prather is that he coached BOTH Basketball and football.
Little known fact about Coach Leon Johnson is that at one time he was also a girl's basketball coach. He has an incredible amount of knowledge and insight if you get the chance to talk to him. One of my great pleasures at NSU was the chances I had to work with him personally and sit under the learning tree.

Joining late BUT I have mixed feelings. From strictly a performance perspective I can understand why a change maybe needed. After the loss tonight against HBU this team may go winless in conference play. That is difficult to do. On the other hand Coach Mike is a GREAT person who has done so much for NSU BOTH off and on the court. He is a mentor to his players and he genuinely cares for his players which is not something that should be taken for granted. Idk............glad I don't have to make that decision. lol

I don’t buy that for a second. Once again look at what Nicholls is doing.

Coach Mike is more than a coach. He is part of the Northwestern community. He shows up to help others, is extremely respected, and has represented NSU well. While I want wins, I believe Coach Mike McConathy has earned the right to go out on his own terms and timing.

stinger...................yeah that's the hard part. Coach Mike is MORE than a coach. And has earned the right to comeback next year. I've heard a few people close with the school compare this team to the 2002-2003 team (specifically the incoming freshman from that team). That was a young team that eventually made it to the tournament and won a game. If this team is TRUELY as talented as that team then Coach Mike deserves to coach that team. I can understand both sides BUT would like him back.

That year I voluntarily played in the basketball pep band and saw every home game mens and womens (as well as getting to go to Duke for the NCAA womens tournament) and we had some mucho growing pains with the mens team. I guess the measuring stick will be what they do next year.
