Going to be a tough bracket. McNeese is solid along with SLU and UNO did beat us 2/3. Definitely a good chance for us to make it out of our bracket. SLU has not played well the last two weeks and we are more talented than both McNeese and UNO. We are getting hot at the right time so hopefully it will give us the lift we need to make a regional.

Our baseball program is better the past three years than the five or so prior, no doubt. But, our conference tournament record is abysmal and I'm being kind. And I'm afraid we've sealed our fate in the 2016 tournament, too. Our best pitcher has 110 pitches under his belt, our bats are silent and we're in the loser's bracket. You'd think this streak would give one year. I reckon not.

It truly is amazing how unlucky our team becomes when SLC tournament time rolls around. Almost border line be impressive. It's actually probably HARDER to have never won, with as many chances as we've, since the inception of the tournament. What's more depressing is to think of all the other teams, like Nicholls, who doesn't have near our baseball history or titles, has won the SLC tournament. The only schools who have won it are the new ones...even UCA has and they've only been DI for 7 or 8 years. With having 9 SLC titles and playing in the tournament a SLC high mark of 19 times, four more than the closest school, someone just looking at those two stats would think our program would have been in the NCAA tournament 6 or 7 times...rather than our three...all at-large bids.
How many times does this make it that we have an opening round loss?
Now we face a team that we lost to 2/3 to and was on the cusp of upsetting SLU until they scored 2 in the B9.
I looked it up...of the SLC high 19 times we've made the tournament in the 23 years of existence we've had a opening round loss 16 TIMES! 9 of those we were the No. 1 seed!!!
I had no idea it was that bad. And we've had some great coaches. I'm not sure the reason can be quantified, though. Proof how much more popular football is than baseball, however. How many of us would take making the playoffs 19 of the past 23 years, even if we lost in the first round? I mean ...
Demons eliminated, season over. Disappointing performance today. No excuse for 4 errors. Demons needed to show up today and didn't. Not going to fault the effort as they played tough, but no excuse for not showing up to the tourney.

The curse continues.
Hard to figure out what the deal is this time of year for us.
"I've got to do some soul searching," Burroughs said. "We've got to look at our team. We've got to get better. My brain's not wired to just come to the conference tournament and be happy with that. We've got to re-evaluate as a program and go from there."
You kinda have to wonder...had we not gone 2-and a-cue in the tourney that we would have had a good shot at possibly getting an at-large bid. We ended the season with an RPI of #46...should've been a little higher had we closed out that game against Tech.
I think we had an outside chance to make it but killed any chance by going 2 and out in the tourney. Had we survived till the final four I think we would have been one of the "last four out".
From what I have seen I think it is looking to be a solid class. Look to have some solid pitchers coming in that have done very well at the Juco ranks (Dan Hlad, Cole Langdon). Have a kid coming in from Dutchtown (Caleb Ricca) that I think will end up being a tremendous signing for us.
Really looks to be a solid class that should be able to contribute a great deal next year.
