History lesson. Over the past 20 years. Before we hired Hugh. We hired 5 coaches in volleyball. All with severely bad losing seasons. Not 1 winning season! Even with Hugh we only produced 2 winning seasons and like I said he bolted. I seriously hope we don't folow the same hiring process of the last 20 years.
I'm a long time NSU athletic supporter. I don't post but I'm hoping to see a great hire here. Who is the coach you are talking about? We finally have this program pointed in the right direction after many bad seasons. Hopefully we put it in a experienced good coaches hands and not like the other young, inexperienced coaches before. That's a gamble we don't have to take if we have good applicants now.

Nobody said anything about young and inexperienced. I would like to see somebody that has been successful where they are, with good experience, and wants to build a long term program with the base that the Hernesmans established. A good DII head coach with a proven recruiting track record or assistant from a good DI program would fit that. The key is that they have a desire to be here long term! I am just weary of somebody coming "down" from a big time program like a power 5 school, or somebody that just wants to use us as a stepping stone. I believe that there has to be a coach out there that will be the best overall fit.

VICtory I'm glad you don't run my business. You would rather take a gamble on a unproven D2 coach or assistant over a coach who is proven and has apparently won consistently at the highest levels. A D2 coach is unproven because they haven't done it at the D1 level. Would like to hear more from Alumnicouple about this coach and what he/she has done.

It's not like we haven't had coaches leave on us before and unless we suddenly and unexpectedly fall into Boone Pickens's favor we won't have the money to prevent coaches from bolting in the future. Hire the best person for the job...if these people have Louisiana roots then we may possibly get what we all want. A good coach and get to hold onto them for longer than the Hernesmens (sp?) DYING to know who this mythical coach is and hopefully they've already signed on the dotted line!

Here's my question - if this big-time coach has won, why do they want our job? If they have not, especially of late, then NSU would have to decide if they can win again. And regarding that D-II stuff, Mike McConathy had not won at D-I level before NSU hired him & we all know how that turned out.

I am guessing that he/she was let go from where they were and looking to rebound here. That is what makes me so nervous about it. Thanks for the point about Mike McConathy as well. He has also been here for what I would consider to be long term! I do look forward to seeing what happens with this volleyball hire. #demoNSUnite

Fact of the matter is that there are very few programs that coaches don't "bolt" from. We keep hiring good young coaches and they get great opportunities elsewhere, fine. That's just the way it is, can't expect anyone to turn down more money. No school in this state aside from LSU can expect to retain successful coaches.

We don't want to say anything that would possibly hurt his chances at all. It's just a unique opportunity for NSU to get a top level coach who wants to be here. He's won at every level and multiple COY awards. Brought teams deep into the NCAA's. And is very familiar with the conference and high level recruiting in this region. and did I mention, he wants to be here. I believe the team will be very excited if he is named.

That's good stuff. Hope it works out. There is a lot to be done for this program. Losing 4 seniors off a team that was 210 in rpi is rough. The offense only hit in the .150's That's usually not good enough to win any games. New coach will have to get to work.

Looks like the VB program may be headed to another 16 years of losing under Burke.

Let's wait and see what the new coach does, whoever that ends up being, before throwing them under the bus.
