Saw the news broadcasts and whatnot, but for someone that was there, how'd it look?

Overall, very good; in certain instances, REALLY promising. Since it was a semi-controlled scrimmage, the tempo was not nearly as fast as in a game; however that did not limit some stellar individual efforts.
Matthew Flores will be a sophomore (Fr.-RS last year) who had a great game. He burned both the defenses (ones and twos) several times, with quick draws and short pass receptions coming out of the backfield. Keep an eye on that young man.
Ed Egan was in form and made some very typical "Egan-like" catches for scores.
Shakeir Ryan has not lost any speed! He showed just how fast he can be on some sweet "end around" plays.
Cody Jones was, at times, impressive as he made some acrobatic grabs in the end zone for scores; however, he did drop some "sure things" on crossing patterns and quick outs. He could be another Hollier. (He even looks like him and wore #17.)
All three back-up QB's made good plays and mediocre plays. (The defense had a lot to say about that.) Of the three, "Bear" Hazelwood had the best overall night with a long strike and several passes for 15+ yards for a couple of TDs. The offense seemed to move the ball the best with him at the helm (but he did seem to get the most reps). T.J. Fleeton moved the best when pressured out of the pocket and made some nice throws with good velocity. No question about J.D. Almond's "touch" on the ball. He laid a couple of pretty 30 yarders into the corner of the end zone, where only his receiver could catch it. He moved around smoothly in the pocket and with no panic.
Starters: Atkins (QB), Atzenweiler (RB) and Taylor (RB) did not see action.
Defensively I could not see too much of a drop off, with the possible exception of the interior line. Deamer will be missed for a while, but Leroy Armstrong looked pretty stinking awesome! There was also some softness on deep pass coverage that will hopefully be corrected; but overall the D looked solid.
Wickman saw most of the kicking duties. Short stuff was fine; he struggled a bit, in the windy conditions, beyond 35 yards.
There was a lot more to talk about, but that is what I remember most, since I am old and senile, and the game was several weeks ago!
