Going back to an 11 game schedule for 2015, and the southland conference going to a 9 game schedule, do the math and that gives us two non conference games to schedule which will obviously be money games. According to fbsschedules.com we have a 9-19 date @ Mississippi State and our other money game will be @ull. I believe we actually open with a home game vs SLU on thursday Sept. 3rd. That will be really strange, I hope we can either go back to 12 game schedule or the conference realizes we can't make money or schedule anyone with a 9 game conference schedule.

Yea, not a big fan of 9 conference games...but at least without having a D2 on the schedule there will be more of an opportunity of making it to the 7 DI wins criteria for the playoffs.

Yea, that's a positive, and we'll get Houston Baptist this go around which is equivalent to a d2 game. I honestly don't think the conference knows how important it is for us to get more than 2 non conference games.

This week, UAB's football program will be shut down, so I don't care who we play or when we play them. I'm just glad we still have a schedule. Also, do not fear SLU. We gave them fits with a down team and their dynamo Oregon transfer QB. He's gone now and we're improving by the day! They should fear us, really.

That's a tougher schedule than some FBS teams. I love it.

Sam's run although impressive was also due to some fortunate circumstances. They beat an injury riddled SLU team, a drastically overrated Jacksonville State, and got to play Villanova without their Walter Payton award winning quarterback. ND state's previous playoff games were much more competitive with both Coast Carolina and SDSU taking them to the wire. Maybe that's just jealousy speaking, but I highly doubt they were top 4 team in the country.

I actually like next year's schedule! Two pay days...with one of those being a possible upset and then no DII teams making it more feasible to get to that 7 wins criteria to make the playoffs.

Still kinda annoying that we miss out on an auto win that is Houston Baptist, also SELA and Sam avoid playing each other AGAIN!? How is that possible.
Not really any huge gaps in between home games and the money games are about as good as it gets. A winnable regional game and an SEC team that will be a good experience for the players.

I really like our schedule for 2015 and am very excited about it. It's tough that the season the SLC moves to a 9-game schedule, falls on a year when the calendar only allows FCS teams to have 11 games if you want to have a bye week mixed in there. The SLC will be an 11 team league for the 2nd season, so now everyone plays 9 out of the 10 other teams.
As Cajun demon pointed out, the only SLC team we don't play this season is Houston Baptist... HBU will begin only their 3rd year as a program this fall and are undoubtedly the closest thing to an automatic win any Southland team will see on their conference schedule this season. Initially I thought thats pretty unfortunate for us... However, avoiding them will help our RPI by boosting our strength of schedule. So not playing HBU could actually play to our advantage... I'm really not sure, but I don't mind it. What does everyone else think??
On a different note, it blew my mind to see that Southeastern and Sam Houston are not playing each other for the 2nd season in a row!?! I'm almost certain the Southland had to determine the conference champion(or atleast who recieved the auto bid) by a tie breaker and not by head-to-head result for the 1st time in conference history last season. So I'm baffled that the SLC has chosen to keep the same 2 teams from playing each other this year???
Did they intentionally do this because of the possibility of both teams going undefeated in conference? Therefore, the 2 teams will have better records & hopefully get higher seeds in the playoffs, while the conferences 3rd place team will still get in as it did in 2014??
I'm sure its just how the schedule worked itself out. I know creating and setting schedules can be a very tricky thing... But damn it doesn't feel very fair that SLU and Sam get to avoid each other again!
