Prather is used for lots of things, athletic and not. It’s no surprise that it shows wear and tear. The issue is that there is really no place for 3 teams to practice and play for while it undergoes any sort of renovation. If it were to shut down today anything being done to it would have to be done by August 1, which would be pushing things. And I don’t think that the renovations needed can be done piecemeal. So that means building a new facility, which would require a major influx of cash, which I don’t think is going to happen.

I think part of the lack of recruiting is related to the poor facilities. There's a reason why schools invest in athletic facilities. From coaching to facilities I dont see the A.D investing much in the basketball programs. Heard this recently - while not at the top because it’s hard to match SFA and Sam Houston money, you might be surprised that the NSU head coaching salary is not at the bottom of the heap as might be presumed. More like middle of the pack. And yeah we need a new arena badly. Money has been invested into trying to “dress up” the coliseum, like the Hall of Fame area that looks much better, but it’s still a very old facility. The program has the budget to travel and recruit as needed and the administration has ponied up for the last few years in cost of attendance stipends for players so the investment is more than one might think. I was told it was almost a done deal getting the money from the state for a new arena but was denied by Edwards because, and he has a point, there are already so many buildings in the ULS, LSU and Southern system that are in disrepair and unable to be taken care of properly without adding more to it. Not sure how true or false that was but that's what I was told sometime last year.

I hear ya BUT let's be real. To a 18, 19 or 20 year old kid it's all about the facilities (areana, locker room, film room and etc.) NSU is lacking in those areas. Lets be honest......based on strictly tenure Coach Mike should be the highest paid coach in the conference. The fact that he's only in the middle proves a point.

Unfortunately IMO tenure and budget don’t always align. If the money’s not there, it’s simply not there. I don’t know all details but there may not be money in some part of the budget that can be shaved off for a head coach salary. What I do know and I’ve heard this more than once is the Texas schools have a lot more money than NSU. When the previous SFA coach who won a couple of NCAA tournament games was there he was making something like $400K. I remember reading that in a press release from SFA. And I hear ya about facilities but short of getting millions for a new arena, the best that can be done is to make the best of the facility as is.
